It is Friday evening and I am just back from Culture Night. Town was full and the queues were long. So definitely Culture Night added to the busy-ness, but I got the impression that the majority of people were there NOT for Culture Night. It was great to see that events are back, but the queues were sooo long that I didn’t make it to single one of them and had to leave a little frustrated.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

The outdoor performances at the Wood Quay Amphitheatre and at Meeting House Square (Kila!) were super popular and I saw that I wouldn’t get inside.<\/p>\n

But then I remembered that the Sand Sculptures at Dublin Castle (see picture on the left) were still on show this weekend and that alone was worth going into town for. :-) I love the detail that goes into that and if you have time on Saturday or Sunday, go to see the three sculptures, they are great. 48 tons of sand has been worked into three great sculptures.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What else is new? I am flooded with e-mails from PR agencies who are promoting events. So from 22 October we will firmly be back again in “normal times”. Regrettably, the Facebook Events calendar is still broken and it seems Facebook doesn’t care much about repairing it. The problem is that the events search function does not “reveal” all the posted events, but filters and therefore hides a lot of events so that I won’t be able to find them. I will do my best to circumvent this problem, but it causes a LOT of additional work.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

And let me say one more thing: I NEED your help on Facebook. Because the engangement has dropped super low, the reach of the Dublin Event Guide post on Saturdays has gone down so low that it hardly makes sense to post it anymore. If you want me to continue posting the event list every\u00a0Saturday, you need to click on L._.IKE,\u00a0leave your feedback ans also use\u00a0S._.HARE as often as possible. It is really essential! \nThe Gardiner Street Gospel Choir, one of Ireland’s most experienced and best Gospel Choirs (and I am TOTALLY biased, because I am part of it!) is looking for new singers now that singing soon will resume again. The choir rehearses every Wednesday and sings every Sunday (in normal times) at the Gardiner Street Gospel Mass and if you can sing (you don’t need to be a soloist!!) and would love to sing in a friendly and welcoming Gospel Choir, come to our Open Night on Wed 22 Sept (19:45-21:30) to find out more. The Open Night is followed by an Audition night on 29 Sept for everyone who likes what they hear and see and experience at the Open Night and who would like to join. \nKildare Culture is celebrating the post-lockdown COMEBACK of culture and entertainment with a sequence of live concerts. The concerts are not free and space is limited, but Kildare Culture decided to make them available to a wider audience, so the concerts will be live this month and then in October the recordings will be screened. \nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.ie\/visit-us\/book-your-ticket<\/a> The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.ie\/whats-on<\/a> and then book tickets for them.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nUntil the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15).
