This week my schedule is FULL and – to be honest – I would have loved to skip a week of “Dublin Event Guide”. BUT as you know, I don’t do that easily and with sooo many events coming up already this weekend and even more so next Friday when the great “Culture Night” is back, I can’t just abandon you. ;-) But in the end there were sooo many events, that I am super late today! MAYBE you are wondering why my schedule is so full? Three years ago, a friend introduced me to a sport that I TOTALLY became addicted to and apart from playing it, I also got involved with organising a few things. The sport is called “Padel Tennis” and is a super addictive racket sport that has some similarities with Tennis, but is played in a court surrounded by walls. Originally invented in Mexico, Padel Tennis is now far more popular in Spain than tennis and is worldwide one of the fastest growing sports.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

In Spain there are more than 20,000 Padel courts and more than 6 mio active players play Padel. In Ireland there is a total of just 19 Padel Courts and maybe 1000 people play Padel. But the Padel Federation of Ireland (PFI) managed to get a prestigious international tournament to come to Dublin and this weekend the “FIP RISE Dublin 2021” is taking place at the Bushy Park Tennis and Padel club. The tournament started on Friday, continues on Saturday (10:00-22:30) and finishes on Sunday with Semi-Finals from 10:00-12:00 and Finals from 12:00-14:00.<\/p>\n

The level is extremely high with more than 92 international Padel players who flew in just for the tournament and who are competing for World Padel Tour Ranking points and a prize of EUR 5000. If you are interested, come to Bushy Park in Terenure (http:\/\/www.bushytennispadel.ie<\/a>) and watch some of the matches. Admission is free! +++ CULTURE NIGHT 2021 – Don’t miss it!<\/strong>
\nYes, the news is good! Culture Night will take place again this year and while it will be a sort of lockdown-influenced version with a lot of online events because Culture Night is happening 3 days before the key date of 20 Sept, it is still better than NO Culture Night. There will be real life events and online events, but with the limited spaces for the real life events, many of them are already booked out. Check for all details the website at\u00a0\u00a0https:\/\/culturenight.ie\/<\/a>
\nIf you have never heard of Culture Night then let me tell you that (in normal times) it is the best cultural event of the year. An evening (from 17:00-22:00 or 23:00) when galleries, museums and other cultural venues are open all over Ireland. Dublin was regularly buzzing with events, and people and excitement. It is the 16th year of Culture Night this year and hopefully next year all will be back to the great evening we experienced for 14 years.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ DUBLIN CLIMATE ACTION WEEK 2021<\/strong>
\nDublin Climate Action Week is a one-week programme of online and in-person events running from 13-19 September 2021, which will inspire, share knowledge and highlight best practice on climate action. From movies via talks to Cycling Trips, there are a large amount of events taking place and I was only able to add a small number to this Dublin Event Guide. for the rest, please go to https:\/\/dublinclimatechange.codema.ie\/climate-action-week\/<\/a> and select the Events Tab.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nFrom 12-18 Sept the National Bike Week takes place and there will be a very large number of events. Some online, but MANY life events as well. +++ Gardiner Street Gospel Choir looking for new singers (Male & Female)<\/strong>
\nThe Gardiner Street Gospel Choir, one of Ireland’s most experienced and best Gospel Choirs (and I am TOTALLY biased, because I am part of it!) is looking for new singers now that singing soon will resume again. The choir rehearses every Wednesday and sings every Sunday (in normal times) at the Gardiner Street Gospel Mass and if you can sing (you don’t need to be a soloist!!) and would love to sing in a friendly and welcoming Gospel Choir, come to our Open Night on Wed 22 Sept (19:45-21:30) to find out more. The Open Night is followed by an Audition night on 29 Sept for everyone who likes what they hear and see and experience at the Open Night and who would like to join. +++ SCULPTURE\u00a0IN CONTEXT – National Botanic Gardens<\/strong>
\nThe Sculpture\u00a0in Context exhibition is taking place again this year in the National Botanic Gardens. It is a great exhibition where sculptures are “planted” in lots of different places in the Botanic Gardens, making the park even more interesting. The exhibition will run from 02 Sept-15 Oct, so there is plenty of time to see it, but put it on your list, otherwise you will leave it to the last weekend (as I have done tooo often in the past ;-) ). http:\/\/www.sculptureincontext.com\/ Admission to the National Botanic Gardens is always free and opening hours are 10:00-17:00 every day of the week.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ National Gallery tickets available here<\/strong>
\nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.ie\/visit-us\/book-your-ticket<\/a> The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.ie\/whats-on<\/a> and then book tickets for them.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Visit Dublin Castle for free<\/strong>
\nUntil the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15).
