Hi all!<\/p>\n

Have you ever used the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) to find out about great free cultural events in Dublin? Maybe it was mainly in pre-lockdown times, but if you are reading this, then maybe you are still interested in events even now!?<\/p>\n

I am estimating that the Dublin Event Guide has told you about well over 75,000 free events over the last few years and has provided “matchmaking” services between great free events and you, the great audience to well over 80,000 people in Dublin.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

But I would be lying, if I said that the last 16 months were easy. There were still events, but nearly all online and after a while, online events lose their shine and consequently the Dublin Event Guide wasn’t used as much as before. Hand in and with that, the donations dropped to the lowest level EVER!<\/p>\n

Last week, not a single person donated any money and over the last few months the original deal: “I find the events, collect them and write the details in the weekly newsletter and you cover the cost through donations.” hasn’t worked at all. Meaning that I am finding event AND am paying most of the cost. That is NOT a good situation and I need to change it rapidly.<\/p>\n

So from today, a donation counter will be shown here and we need to reach EUR 200 by the end of the month. If we reach that amount all is good. But if we don’t, then I need to make a tough decision at the end of the month.<\/p>\n

(The counter will start with Zero at the beginning of the month, but it is possible to carry over positive or negative amounts from previous months if the previous month amount was overachieved or underachieved.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Art and the Outdoors, a Family Art Event on Saturday and Sunday<\/strong>
\nThe Hugh Lane Gallery is inviting everybody to a two day family art event on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August 2021 on Parnell Square North. The explicitly family-friendly programme includes artist-led outdoor drawing, street performance by the Dublin Circus Project, live music performances from jazz to string quartet and traditional music and poetry readings programmed in conjunction with Poetry Ireland. It is part of a wider city recovery programme. +++ Events funded by the Department of Tourism!?<\/strong>
\nEarlier this year, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media invited performing artists and groups to apply for funding from their “Live Performance Support Scheme”. A total of EUR 25 mio were given out (application for more than 80 mio were received from 400 applicants). Grants between 10,000 and 581,000 were given out and looking through the list of grantees (https:\/\/www.gov.ie\/en\/service\/ca5d7-live-performance-support-scheme-2021\/<\/a>), a number of the sparse project descriptions make you really wonder if this was just an opportunity for some to pocket a lot of money for a tiny return. The scheme was to help the performing industry after all the restrictions, but the second benefit was meant to be for us, the audience. I had hoped for PLENTY of free events in connection with the scheme, but the current trend seems to be that in addition to the grant, the organisers tend to charge quite high admission fees. That is not good news!!<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Neuro Pride 2021 – Festival for the Neurodivergent community<\/strong>
\nNeuro Pride is a festival from 02-08 August with lots of events for the Neurodivergent community (https:\/\/neuropride.ie\/events-for-nd-people\/<\/a>) and anybody else (https:\/\/neuropride.ie\/events-for-anyone\/<\/a>). All events are free and online. Neurodiversity is an umbrella term for many conditions and neuro-profiles and while the Neuropride organisers try to avoid medical and disability-related terms, it might help to create a link between the “old” terms and the new term “Neurodiversity” to understand. So forgive me for mentioning the old terms to explain that Neurodiversity includes what elsewhere is referred to as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger’s Syndrome, Personality Disorders, Identity Disorders, Tourettes, social communication deficits, at risk of developing schizophrenia, symptoms of autism, ADHD, comorbid disorders, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia etc. Check the Neuro Pride website at https:\/\/neuropride.ie<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ National Gallery tickets available here<\/strong>
\nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side. Tickets are available here: https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.ie\/visit-us\/book-your-ticket<\/a> The National Gallery also is running events again and because the events have limited number of spaces, they can book out relatively fast, at least before I can write about the events, so check out the events 1-2 weeks in advance here https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.ie\/whats-on and then book tickets for them.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Visit Dublin Castle for free<\/strong>
\nUntil the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15). Tickets can be booked at https:\/\/dublincastle.admit-one.eu\/?p=calendar&ev=SELFGUIDE<\/a> for free there will also a limited number of tickets available at the ticket desk.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
