From 26 July pubs, restaurants and caf\u00e9s are allowed to open their doors again for indoor services…but only for people that have proof that they have received the vacci ne or that recovered from an infection less than six months ago.<\/p>\n

This is probably a first and a quite worrying first! Imagine four years ago a pub owner would have asked you for your medical history before letting you in?<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Imagine this example: “Can you proof that you do not have a Mental Health issue? No? Sorry, you can’t enter our premises.” I would have hoped that people in this country had protested vehemently.<\/p>\n

Not now! Now the state forces you to give personal details about your medical history to a pub or restaurant employee and we just accept? People have stopped using the encrypted (!!) WhatsApp because Facebook might send them some additional ads, but they are prepared to reveal private medical data to a pub owner? Very strange times!<\/p>\n

The bill that enforces this new level of control is intentionally written in language that makes it difficult to understand (https:\/\/data.oireachtas.ie\/ie\/oireachtas\/bill\/2021\/100\/eng\/initiated\/b10021d.pdf<\/a>), but even more concerning is that it is justified on Page 4 through totally un-proven scientific claims.<\/p>\n

You might or might not think that the law is discriminatory, but imagine the Irish government would decide next year that it is a risk to the public if people with mental health issues enter a pub? Or people with a disability enter a restaurant? Would you then think it is discriminatory?<\/p>\n

Yes, I definitely hope that indoor events can re-start again as soon as possible, but if a state singles out groups in society for positive or negative reasons, we should get worried.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Let’s hope that these rules\u00a0won’t bve extended to museums and galleries and other cultural venues! In the meantime, the number of\u00a0events are slowly increasing, but\u00a0 the change is VERY slow. The good new is though that the Dublin Event Guide will continue the place where you find all high-quality cultural events that are free, so stick with us. ;-)<\/p>\n

The Dublin Event Guide is a free service, but it is not free to run it. For website, software licenses and to send the Dublin Event Guide e-mail every week, there are monthly cost of approx. 200 Euro.<\/p>\n

The arrangement for the last 10+ years has been that I find the events and create the weekly newsletter and you help with the cost through donations. In the last 1.5 years that deal is not working anymore and instead I have to also put in money to pay the bills.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

\nThe Festival of Curiosity is a yearly festival of science, arts, design\u00a0and technology. It\u00a0will take place from Thursday until Sunday and will – unsurprisingly – be a bit different than in previous years. But nevertheless, it will be a festival full of events and while in normal years getting tickets is really really hard, this year there are still plenty of tickets available, but you should book as soon as possible. Many if not most events are free, but for some of the free ones donations are suggested.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

+++ Inside Out Summer Library Events<\/strong>
\nFrom Sat 10 July until Sat 14 August, a series of free summer libraries events for for children and families will take place online and outdoors. The outdoors events will be at the libraries in Ballyfermot, Ballymun, Coolock, Phibsboro and Walkinstown. The events are workshops and performances and in most cases require pre-booking. all detail are here: http:\/\/www.dublincitylibraries.ie\/<\/a> Many events will “sell” out quite quickly, so have a look at events even further in advance. In addition Dublin Libraries have that odd habit to close sales (even if events are not “sold” out yet) a few days before the event takes place, so you really have to plan with a bit of a longer time horizon.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

\nUntil the end of 2021, entry to Dublin Castle is free for all visitors. You will be able to visit the State Apartments on a self-guided tour. There are currently no guided tours and therefore the Medieval Undercroft and Chapel Royal are not accessible. Opening hours are Mon-Sun & Bank Holidays: 09:45-17:45 (last admission 17:15). \nThe National Gallery is usually free anyway, but in current times you will have to book tickets to get access and you have to enter the building on the Merrion Street side.
