Hi all!<\/span><\/p>\n

Difficult times for everybody in all areas and as it looks, this will go on for another good while. <\/span><\/p>\n

We will definitely stay in lockdown until 01 Dec if you listen to the rumblings from the government. Then they will give us some “day release” until just after Christmas and with families getting together over Christmas, it wouldn’t be surprising if we will be in another lock down in January. :-O<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is the counter that shows you how long it will be until the current lockdown is over:<\/span><\/p>\n

Uff! That’s not a great outlook. I haven’t seen my parents, who are in their eighties, since last Christmas and it looks as if I won’t see them anymore this year. And at that age, the countdown timer is running much faster than at a younger age, so every month is precious. <\/span><\/p>\n

What can we do to lift ourselves up? I have some suggestions at the end of this Dublin Event Guide. Check the section after the events where you find the “more events and suggestions.” ;-)<\/span><\/p>\n

For the Dublin Event Guide there are also some challenges: Last week just two (very appreciated!!) people helped with a donation. And on top of that, Facebook decided to only show the weekly Facebook Post at<\/span> https:\/\/www.Facebook.com\/DublinEventGuide<\/a> to only HALF the normal number of people. Facebook engagement (that’s where your help is essential) is down significantly, so Facebook gets the impression you are not keen on seeing the weekly post and then doesn’t show more people.<\/span><\/p>\n

So this week, I need your input and it is serious! Please help me understand if you still like the Dublin Event Guide or not. The question is quite simple. It is “Would you miss the Dublin Event Guide if it went on a break until live events are back after Covid?” Please vote here<\/span> https:\/\/shor.by\/pIrR<\/a> or click in the red button below. This is an important chance to influence the future of the Dublin Event Guide!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If there is not enough help with the cost to keep the Dublin Event Guide going, things will get serious even if everybody wanted this weekly publication to continue, but I know and trust that you will step up when needed. 11) SCIENCE WEEK<\/span>
\nFrom Sunday 08 Nov until next Sunday is Science Week in Ireland and there will be lots of interesting events, but this year you will have to watch out for a new feature. When you go to the events page at<\/span> https:\/\/www.sfi.ie\/events\/<\/a> my natural reaction was to select “Dublin” as the events location. And then I was surprised that there were lots of events “missing” that I knew about. So this year you also have to consider the category “Online” with over 30 events!<\/span>
\nI have a few Science Week events listed above, but it is a very small selection, so you should definitely spend the time to go to the Science Week website.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) LIFT UP THE LOCKDOWN MOOD<\/span>
\nPlenty people give advice on what to do during lockdown. how not to panic and how to keep your spirits up and always one aspect is the longterm effect and longterm prospects of these restrictions. I expect that we will start seeing improvements by middle of next year. No, it won’t be a total lifting of all restrictions, but a gradual softening because we will “normalise” Covid. After more than a year there will also be more reliable research available and the treatment methods will have improved so that normalisation is to be expected. “Normalisation” really mans, that we will start accepting the Covid risks in a similar way as we accept lots of other risks in our lives as normality. Most people don’t freak out when they cross the street, they are aware that it is a risk and they are as careful as possible. <\/span>
\n—<\/span>
\nBut mid of next year is still a good while away, so what should we do in the meantime? Apart from keeping yourself busy I found one really good suggestion that I would like to share. The suggestion was about things that you love and now miss hugely: Pick ONE thing that you really miss doing\/experiencing and brainstorm with yourself or with others about what you could do to NEARLY experience in in the current “new normality”? So how could you modify that experience that you get as close as possible to it, even now?<\/span>

\nDon’t expect that it will be easy! If you particularly enjoy traveling to Mauritius and do snorkeling there, then taking the bus to Sandycove and snorkeling there might not cut it. But maybe you can recreate other aspects: Some foods that you like when you travel. The relaxation that you experience because you read books or go for long walks. So compromises will be necessary, but if you look for the SOME of the essential things that you like then you might be able to recreate some. ;-) Let me know if that suggestion helps!<\/span><\/p>\n

3) EXPERIMENTAL VIRTUAL SCIENCE GALLERY TOURS<\/span>
\nThe current Science Gallery exhibition is called “Invisible” and we could joke that it has that name, because we can’t see the exhibition due to the lockdown, but this was not the reason for that name. ;-) Instead, the exhibition shows how science, art and philosophy help imagining the unseen and questioning the invisible.<\/span>
\nI was able to see the exhibition on the day the first lockdown was announced in March, which was the day when “Invisible” should have been launched.<\/span>
