Scary all over! – Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! …and Covid!

It will be different Halloween than in previous year’s, VERY VERY different in fact! No parties, no dressing up, no children looking for treats. Instead we are meant to stay at home and watch TV and wait another….<\/span><\/p>\n

The nonsensical rules about “non-essential items” that are now forbidden to be sold in supermarkets got me so annoyed this week that I had to write about it in my blog. But I decided to put it on my blog only for people that are interested:\u00a0<\/span> http:\/\/www.joergsteegmueller.com\/2020\/10\/30\/how-to-lose-the-peoples-support-for-anti-covid-measures\/<\/a><\/p>\n

New lockdowns are introduced or ramped up all over Europe and infection numbers are reaching higher levels throughout Europe than the last time, so the restrictions are somewhat justified, but it has to be done WITH the people, not against the people, to be ultimately successful.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming back to this year’s Halloween, it just HAS to be different, unfortunately! But organisers have created a whole range of online events for you and as long as they are free, they are listed in this Dublin Event Guide. ;-)<\/span><\/p>\n

So get on that Zoom call and make the best of it! But ALSO don’t forget to check out the moon tonight! It is allegedly the first time since 1955 (or 1944 or 1974, depending on who tells you about it :-O ) that there is a full moon and a “Blue Moon” on Halloween and this is how it looked yesterday:<\/span><\/p>\n

2) SCARY HALLOWEEN DRIVE-BY
\nWith the 5km travel limit, that the comes with the second lockdown, I can only recommend this event for people in the Terenure\/Tempelogue\/D6W area: If you want to show your kids a Halloween house, bring them tonight (Saturday) after around 18:00 to this address:

A friend and supporter of the Dublin Event Guide will – as long as it is not MAD stormy! – set up some scary displays outside the house and in the windows. So, if it is in your range, drive by and enjoy, I saw some pictures and what I saw looks really good! :-)<\/p>\n

3) CURSE HUNTER – BRAM STOKER FESTIVAL
\nThe Bram Stoker Festival is this year a little thin on events, but moving everything online for a festival that celebrates scary things is a big challenge. Only one event, Dracula’s Disco will take place on Sunday, all other events happened on Friday.
\nBut there is one more option that deserves your attention. It is called “Curse Hunters and is an interactive adventure game that can be played at home anywhere in the world and is delivered via your phone or tablet. It is suitable for all ages, but the organisers think Curse Hunters aged 6-11 will love it most of all. https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/811782652902071\/<\/a><\/p>\n

4) EXPERIMENTAL VIRTUAL SCIENCE GALLERY TOURS
\nThe current Science Gallery exhibition is called “Invisible” and we could joke that it has that name, because we can’t see the exhibition due to the lockdown, but this was not the reason for that name. ;-) Instead, the exhibition shows how science, art and philosophy help imagining the unseen and questioning the invisible.
\nI was able to see the exhibition on the day the first lockdown was announced in March, which was the day when “Invisible” should have been launched.
\nTo let more people visit the exhibition virtually, the Science Gallery mediators are running virtual tours now on an experimental basis and if you want to participate in such a tour, you can book it via the link below. 5) LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES – Special Offer
