Culture Night in danger?? – Dublin Festival of History, Music Town Festival, Culture Night

Tuesday is a new D-Day! On Tuesday we will find out what the next 6 or 9 months might bring to your society, to your life. On Tuesday the 6 (or 9-months plan for Covid will be announced and we know a little bit about it already. There will be 5-levels with 5 being a lockdown and 1 being the lightest restrictions (NOT: no restrictions!). And the idea is that we will go through these levels as the Covid situation changes. The assessment will be made on a county by county basis and an article in the Irish Examiner is speculating about the content<\/span>: https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/news\/arid-40046735.html<\/a><\/p>\n

I wrote a number of times that I hope the pubs will be able to open soon again (Not because of the alcohol, but for the return of cultural events.) but do not hold your breath on the expectation that they will open on 21 Sept! It could happen, but at the moment it doesn’t look good. At least not in Dublin.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the midst of all this, this coming Friday will be Culture Night. Normally the best night of cultural pursuits in Dublin! But as you can imagine, this year all will be different. It looks like Culture Night will be mainly (or maybe even exclusively if the rules change before then?) an online event and that could be an indication for culture in Ireland for the next few months. :-O<\/span><\/p>\n

I am not looking forward to it, BUT there MIGHT be some light at the end of the tunnel:<\/span><\/p>\n

Remember the term “bradykinin”! It is the name of an amino acid peptide chain and with a bit of luck (You heard it here first!!! ;-) ), this peptide is the reason for the havoc in the bodies of Covid patients. I say “a bit of luck” because if it turns out it is bradykinin (and a LOT of research is needed to confirm that!) then we already have very good and totally approved means to control the bad effects of it. It wouldn’t stop infections, but it could make them relatively harmless!<\/span><\/p>\n

So not only events in the Dublin Event Guide but also medical research updates? Well, you know by now that I can’t keep really interesting information to myself. ;-) But you know also that all this needs YOUR help! 1) CULTURE NIGHT 2020
\nAnd here it is! Culture Night will take place on Friday 18 Sept. And at the time of writing this, there are plans for many online events and some real-life events, but that could change before Friday if the government decides to tighten the restrictions.
\nAll real-live events are severely space limited and many need to be booked, but I found a few that don’t need booking. Long queues outside of some venues like in previous years will most likely not happen, UNLESS everyone in town focuses on the few venues that don’t require booking.
\nCulture Night starts in most venues at 16:00 or 17:00 and runs until 22:00 or 23:00.

2) Dublin Festival of History – Global and Free
\nThe Dublin Festival of History is continuing until 29 Sept. This year the festival will be fully online and all events will be free.

\nIn addition to the online talks, there will be a number of walking tours of historical places, like St. Anne\u2019s Park, Raheny, Croke Park, and Richmond Barracks, Inchicore.

3) Music Town Festival
\nMusic Town is a music festival that is initiated by Dublin City and was meant to be a festival around the anniversary day of Georg Friedrich H\u00e4ndel’s premiere of Messiah. What was meant to be a free festival changed its character a lot lst year, but this year with all online events there are more free events again. Because it couldn’t happen in April,\u00a0 Music Town will happen now from 09-26 Sept.

4) Online Courses – Special Offer
\nDuring the Covid lockdown, enrollments in Udemy courses increased by 425%! Wow! What did you learn during that time? In September most Udemy courses will cost between EUR 10.99 and 12.99 again. At some point in August the courses were even reduced to 9.99, but these things happen sometimes without advance warning.
