Until some years ago some catholic theologians were teaching the idea of “limbo”, a place between heaven and hell where mainly unbaptised newborns get stuck if they die. A cruel concept for religious parents! And while it seems that it never was official catholic teaching, that didn’t stop some priests of the bad sort to frighten parents with it! <\/span><\/p>\n

Well, it seems we all live in a sort of Limbo 2.0 at the moment. The announcements from the government and NPHET seem to be intentionally frightening, the opening of society is definitely on hold for another good while and as if they wanted to instill more fear with it, the movement restrictions for complete (smaller!) counties (it won’t hit Dublin is my prediction!!) will be considered at every turn!<\/span><\/p>\n

So what can we do? There is only one thing: Stay positive! ;-) …and stay healthy! Life could be a LOT worse and while we might lose a year (or even a bit more) I compare it to war generations who lost many years with a MUCH bigger danger around them. <\/span><\/p>\n

Yes we will have to change things in our lives and maybe the “Zoom” culture – that was super active a few months ago – will have to come back to bridge us over the culture-less time, but I am 100% certain that our lives will not be permanently on hold. It is only a temporary restriction!<\/span><\/p>\n

And as I keep saying: As long as you want it, I will make sure that you will find out about all the (free) cultural events that are happening. :-) <\/span><\/p>\n

All this, however is not possible without your support! The Dublin Event Guide is free as long as there is enough support from YOU, the readers. Unfortunately it is not looking good lately. There is a small number of great people who do help. But last week this very small number was just TWO!!!!! :-O You can imagine that that is not enough to pay for the bills of the Dublin Event Guide. :-(<\/span><\/p>\n

1) Culture Night<\/span>
\nCulture night is coming closer Friday 18 September is the day and you should start looking into it now already!<\/span>
\nCulture Night is one of my favourite yearly events. In previous years on Culture Night, which is this year on Friday 18 September, lots of cultural venues were open from 17:00-22:00 or 23:00 and the City Centre was buzzing with people and events. There were concert, talks, exhibitions and open doors and all was completely free.<\/span>
\nFor this year, there is good news and bad news!<\/span>
\n—<\/span>
\nThe good news is that Culture Night will happen and there will be even a few real life events. But the bad news is that most real life events are already booked out due to the low numbers that will be admitted. There will be a good few online events, but as you maybe can imagine or have experienced in previous years, Culture Night always lived and thrived from the buzz, the bustling city, the busy events, even the long queues at some venues. And all this we will miss this year.<\/span>
\n—<\/span>
\nThe events are all listed on<\/span> https:\/\/culturenight.ie\/<\/a> and because you MIGHT still find a real life event that is not booked out and to see what is happening online, I suggest you have a look already now!<\/span><\/p>\n

2) Dublin Festival of History – Global and Free<\/span>
\nThe Dublin Festival of History is taking place this year from Fri 11 Sept until Sun 04 Oct and this year the festival will be fully online. That is not great for obvious reasons, but it does have some significant advantages: It means the festival will be truly global because everyone all over the world can be part of it and since all events are free anyway, it is much easier for all of us to enjoy the festival as well if all we need is a computer or mobile phone. <\/span>

\nIn addition to the online talks, there will be a number of walking tours of historical places, like St. Anne\u2019s Park, Raheny, Croke Park, and Richmond Barracks, Inchicore. <\/span>

Important note: While all events are free, some need booking, so it is advised that you will check the list of events soon and book the ones that you want to be part of (if they need booking!).<\/span><\/p>\n

3) Online Courses – Special Offer<\/span>
\nDuring the Covid lockdown, enrollments in Udemy courses increased by 425%! Wow! What did you learn during that time? In September most Udemy courses will cost between EUR 10.99 and 12.99 again. At some point in August the courses were even reduced to 9.99, but these things happen sometimes without advance warning. \nBecause there will be a Bank Holiday this Monday in the UK, some people got totally confused. IKEA even sent a promotional e-mail to their Irish customers saying that their Sales will end on “Bank Holiday Monday”. Dohhh! Guess where the writer of this e-mail probably has their office? :-D<\/span>
\nSo NO bank holiday this weekend! The next bank holiday in Ireland will be on 26 October.<\/span>
