Hi all!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We are making giant steps back to normality. At the beginning of the Covid-19 period people were longing to go back to normality. Then it changed a bit and many said “Hopefully we will NOT go back to the old normality, but to a new and better place.”, referring to our busy lives and a somewhat non-caring attitude in society. But I get the feeling that the “new normal” will be very much like the old normal.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your impression? Can we still improve it a bit?<\/span><\/p>\n

I get that if you need knickers, you need knickers and nothing can be done about that. ;-) But if the biggest queues after the re-opening of society are outside of McDonalds and Penney’s is that really a good sign?<\/span><\/p>\n

But let me move to events: <\/span>
\nThere are good and bad news! The good news is that Farmer’s\/Outdoor Food Markets are re-opening again. (The Temple Bar Market on Meeting House Square is back from this weekend.) <\/span>
\nThe bad news is that nobody found a solution for our musicians\/singers\/bands yet. Based on current government guidelines, the pubs will open soon but music will be banned. And nobody knows when music will be allowed again. I have lot of friends who are full-time or part-time musicians and I really worry for them and their ability to earn money again.<\/span><\/p>\n

And that brings me to a topic again that I don’t really like that much: <\/span>
\nI never like asking you for money\/donations, but if I didn’t do it, this Dublin Event Guide would be long gone like so many other free event resources before it. Keeping it going for 13 years has often been a challenge, but week after week some really good people among you bail me out again with donations to keep the Dublin Event Guide alive. Thanks to everyone of you great people! :-)<\/span><\/p>\n

If every Dublin Event Guide Reader gave just 1 Euro per year, I would never have to ask again for donations and this publication would be MUCH better than it is. But because only a TINY minority is helping, I have to ask for higher donations just to pay the cost and keep everything running. <\/span><\/p>\n

Freedom Day came with the Penney’s Opening :-)

We are still following the government’s plan to re-open society, but since now even pubs (with restaurant license) and even hairdressers will probably open before the originally announced date, the only difference to freedom is the working from home. Oh and the queues outside of shops. We are nearly back!! …and interestingly we are told that even if the Coronavirus will come back, we will probably not experience a second lockdown. <\/span><\/p>\n

So this is what I was talking about a few weeks ago: This might be your ONLY chance in your whole life to have such an extended period of relative downtime. Hopefully you used it well and are leaving the Covid period with some new learnings …or at least with a long list of watched movies and series. :-)<\/span><\/p>\n

1) Virtual Tour of the week
\nThe UK is suffering badly from the Covid-19 situation and it might be wise to stay away from London for a while, so this week, I found a collection of Virtual Tours in London that will save you the flight ticket and it doesn’t require you to quarantine for 2 weeks. https:\/\/www.insider.com\/virtual-trip-london-without-leaving-your-home-2020-4<\/a> There are lots of locations covered, have a look!<\/p>\n

2) Cruinni\u00fa na n\u00d3g – Creativity for young people
\nA national day full of free events around the topic of creativity is taking place on Saturday. It is tailored for children and young people and a long list of events is listed at https:\/\/cruinniu.creativeireland.gov.ie<\/a> If you prefer a “curated” list of recommendations then you can also check the Dublin City Arts Office Facebook page at https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DublinCityArtsOffice\/<\/a> or scroll through this list http:\/\/www.dublincityartsoffice.ie\/supporting-communities\/programmes-for-children-young-people\/cruinniu-na-nog

2) Online Courses
\nYep, Udemy is definitely “messing” about with prices. During the week they dropped to 10.99, now they are up again. Check frequently and buy when cheap. 3) Educational Summer Camp
\nThe National College of Ireland is running a free online educational Summer Camp for ages 14-17 from 22-26 June to encourage young people to consider going on to Higher Education. There will be free classes every day from 12:00-16:00 and a Laptop or smartphone is needed to take part.
\nStudents AND Guardians also need to fill in an application form here https:\/\/www.ncirl.ie\/ELI\/Discover-University<\/a> The deadline for applications was originally 11 June, but I have a feeling that there might be still some available spots and you can check with Educational Guidance Coordinator \u00c1ine Kavanagh at aine.kavanagh AT ncirl.ie or on 086-4666413 if that is the case.<\/p>\n

4) Books
\nCheck our the app “Story Shots” for all book summaries. The basic version is free. And also have another look at https:\/\/readitfor.me\/91927<\/a> They currently have a lifetime offer for $99, which is a very interesting (once off!!) price for a really good service. But even if you don’t sign up, you can get free book reviews in the basic version when you register.
