So here it goes…

Do you know the Temple Bar Food Market? And when have you been there the last time? Maybe this week is the perfect time to have a look at it again. There are a few less events than in usual weeks, so that gives some room to re-visit the regular events:
Every Saturday from 10:00 – 17:00 there is an International Food Market in the Meeting House Square in Temple Bar. You can have a delicious lunch there, bought at one of the many food stands, or you can buy organic fruits and vegetable to make your own food at home.

A photographic exhibition is coming to an end and this week is the last chance to see it: “Eyewitness: Ireland through the lens of Colman Doyle”. The exhibition represents almost 60 years of Colman Doyle’s career as a photographer and features 90 photographs from Colman Doyle’s photographic collection of almost 25,000 (!!!) images held in the National Library of Ireland. Among the photographs on display are portraits of Charles J Haughey, President Eamon de Valera, Jack Lynch, Pope John Paul II, John F Kennedy and Princess Grace of Monaco. The exhibition also features vignettes of Irish life from the 1950s to the 1990s. Venue is the National Photographic Archive, Meeting House Square, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. And the exhibition is open on Friday from 10:00-17:00 and on Saturday for the last day from 10:00 until 14:00. Admission is free.

Lots of people do weird but at the same time great things for charity – things that are REAL sacrifices. I am not talking about parachute jumps (Must be fun!) or adventure holidays to exciting locations, they don’t really count in my eyes! No I am talking about personal sacrifices: I have been at “beard shaves” (USUALLY of guys! ;-) ) and “leg waxes” (guys as well! And you all know how we deal with pain! :-p) and while they are better than the “pay my charity so that I can have fun”-events, they are still not reaching this: A TOTAL head shave of a woman with a “fine head of hair”. Elizabeth Murray is getting her head shaved in aid of Our Lady’s Children Hospital in Crumlin. It will take place on Sat (03/11) at 20:00 in the Horse Shoe House (opposite the RDS). It certainly is free to watch the spectacle, but you can imagine that donations are more than welcome to soften the meltdown Elizabeth will be having when she finally realises what she did. ;-)

On Sunday is another “Sunday’s at noon” concert in the Hugh Lane Gallery. This week it is Beethoven, Herz and Liszt, performed by
Philip Martin, piano. http://www.hughlane.ie/concerts/whatson.asp

Another regular event, that I have and will mention repeatedly: The “Gig in God’s Gaff” is taking place every Sunday evening at 19:30. This event is a mass in Gardiner Street Church (close to Dorset Street Junction) that is celebrated with the Gardiner Street Gospel Choir. You don’t need to be a regular mass goer or even catholic, to go to that event. Just drop in and enjoy the great singing if that is all you want. And if you want to come for the mass part as well, I think it is the best mass you can experience.

Two events for next week:

The first is a performance of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, which will be given by the Choir of Sacred Heart Church, Donnybrook as part of the liturgy at the 18:00 Mass on Saturday 10 November in the Church of Sacred Heart, Stillorgan Road, Donnybrook, Dublin 4. There is no admission charge. A collection will be taken up during the Mass to cover some of the costs involved. The Requiem will be conducted by Catherine Killoran, and will feature soloists David Curtis (boy soprano) and Martin Briody (baritone), as well as an orchestra – The Donnybrook Players – and organist Michael Quinn.

Now, I could list this event in next weeks guide as well, but Michael Quinn, who sent me the notice about these events is involved in another event on Thursday (08/11). This event is not free but if you are interested in the free Fauré’s Requiem, you might be interested in this as well:

A organ concert taking place in the Chapel of Trinity College Dublin on Thursday 8 November, at 19:00. It is part of ‘Buxtehude 300’, a series of organ concerts commemorating the 300th anniversary of the death of the German composer Dietrich Buxtehude this year. It will be given by an ensemble which Michael Quinn recently co-founded, ‘The Crow Street Consort’, and will include two trio sonatas by Buxtehude as well as some of his organ works.
The performers involved are: Michael Quinn (organ and harpsichord), Pauline Graham (soprano), Marja Tuhkanen (baroque violin) and Sarah Groser (viola da gamba).
Admission charge: 15 Euro (5 Euro for students).

Enjoy the weekend!

–Joerg
**********************************************
Disclaimer: This Event Guide with a difference is sent to friends, colleagues and whoever else is interested to let you know about (mostly free) events in the Greater Dublin Area! Ticketed events usually make enough money to do their own advertisement, they don’t need extra help.
I started this because some friends asked me to share my weekend plans with them as I went to all types of festivals and searched for more. ;-) If you don’t want to receive this mail, just let me know. If you have feedback, good or bad, PLEASE tell me. If you want to be added to the mailing list or know somebody who would like to receive this guide, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com.
BTW: I have no affiliation with any of the organisers and don’t get any “reward” from them for advertising their events.
***********************************************

Hi all!
