I will leave that message here, because it seems that not everyone has seen it yet. :-O<\/a><\/p>\n

I hope you saw the mail that I sent to you last week, in which I announced that after 11.5 years and 600 editions, I will retire the Dublin Event Guide on 14 December. It hasn’t been an easy decision, but it is the right decision. I have spent many many hours and literally sleepless nights on it and it was a great experience and a great time. But now it is time to focus on other things.<\/a><\/p>\n

I will not terminate the Dublin Event Guide, only retire it. That means that you will still hear from me and I will still tell you about events, but not through a weekly e-mail or daily Facebook messages anymore, instead it will be less scheduled and only when big(is) events are coming up. But I won’t go away and I hope you will stick around as well. ;-)<\/a><\/p>\n

Dublin Christmas Markets Website<\/h2>\n

To help you and your friends and families find your way around the Christmas Markets in Dublin, I created a few years ago a website at www.DublinChristmasMarkets.com<\/a> and this website is again updated for 2018, so you can check out there what markets are coming up in the run up to Christmas.<\/p>\n

You might know that I am a bit of a Christmas Market purist and am extremely disappointed with what Dublin manages to put together. With that in mind, I would say that most (if not all) of the “Christmas Markets” on that list are actually “Markets at Christmas”, but not real Christmas Markets. But decide for yourself!<\/a><\/p>\n

And if you wonder which markets I would recommend: I have heard good things about Winterval in Waterford but was never there myself. So the only market that I would definitely recommend is the one in Belfast! :-O<\/a><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Elvis Tribute Gig – Help me, help Eabha!<\/h2>\n
\n

Did you know that I sing in an Elvis Tribute Band? :-O Don’t worry, though, I am NOT the front man! :-) The Elvis Tribute Performer is the outstanding Kevin Doyle who truly sounds like Elvis. If you don’t believe me, come to our gig on 03 December and if you didn’t enjoy the gig, I will buy you a pint afterwards!<\/a><\/p>\n

I sing in Kevin’s backing choir and LOVE our performances. The gig on 03 December is a very special gig for two reasons. Firstly it will be a fundraiser for little Eabha, the daughter of another choir member and for the Jack & Jill Foundation. Eabha was diagnosed with Alcardi Syndrome when she was one week old, which is a rare malformation syndrome of the brain. The Jack & Jill Foundation helps families with children who suffer from severe intellectual and physical disabilities.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And the second reason for this being a very special gig is because it is happening on the 50th Anniversary of Elvis’ 68 Comeback Special. A very very unique concert with a tiny audience that sat on the stage and directly around it. We will do a re-run of that special gig and add some more parts to it. More than 30 songs!! It will be en epic experience that will never be repeated.<\/a><\/p>\n

The gig is not free, because we are trying to get money for Eabha and the Jack & Jill Foundation, but it is worth every cent!
The National Stadium can take 2000 people and, boy would it be cool if we could fill that place!!! I did do concerts in front of more than 1000, but 2000 would be a new record. :-)<\/p>\n

The popular Christmas radio station that broadcasts from the Ballsbridge Hotel throughout the whole pre-Christmas time is back for the 11th year. It started on 28 November and will be broadcasting until 27 December.<\/a><\/p>\n

Christmas FM has raised almost EUR 1.5million for a range of charities over these 11 years and this year they will be raising awareness and funds for Temple Street Children\u2019s Hospital. The radio station\u2019s goal is to raise over EUR 200,000.<\/a><\/p>\n

Lustre showcases beautiful pieces designed and made by the most recent graduates of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland\u2019s Centre of Excellence in Jewellery & Goldsmithing, work in gold, silver, platinum and gemstones. A highlight of the exhibition is an exquisite collection of ten Faberg\u00e9-style eggs.<\/a><\/p>\n

InFlux shows the results of two years of training in all aspects of ceramics skills and design at DCCoI\u2019s Centre of Excellence in Ceramics which is based in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny. \u2018Flux\u2019 in ceramics describes a material that will cause silica, which has a natural melting point of 1700\u00b0C, to melt at a lower temperature thus forming ceramic glazes. In general terms, the word \u2018flux\u2019 also means continuous change and movement and can be applied to the development of ideas and designs and best describes the diversity of this work.<\/a><\/p>\n

It started as a modest brick house for the Phoenix Park Chief Ranger in 1751, was then turned into th \u2018occasional residence\u2019 for the Lords-Lieutenant and gradually evolved into a huge mansion. After Ireland gained independence it was turned after 1937 into the residence of the Irish president.<\/a><\/p>\n

Every Saturday a number of public tours take place and admission is free. Tickets will be issued at the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre on the day, on a first come, first served basis. Group and\/or advance booking is not possible.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Moving Crib of the St. Martin Apostolate is a whole basement full of handcrafted figures in front of painted backgrounds of nativity related scenes. There are 14 scenes, beginning with Adam and Eve and finishing with Christmas. Nearly all figures are moving and this historic crib, which was created in 1956, still fascinates children and even adults.<\/a><\/p>\n

I was there two years ago and it is indeed fascinating. It won’t blow you away, but your kids will probably be a lot more impressed than you!! ;-)<\/a><\/p>\n

Admission is free, but for the upkeep of the crib, a donation is very much appreciated.<\/a><\/p>\n

Six times this year the \u201cPeople\u2019s Art 2018″ exhibition will take place. It is an art exhibition on the rails\/fence of St. Stephen\u2019s Green.<\/a><\/p>\n

Visiting the People\u2019s Art Exhibition is free and you will be able to admire (and buy) a huge amount of great art works from the artists themselves. The event starts close to 11:00 and typically finishes around 17:00, it runs from Friday until Sunday with the main activity on Saturday and Sunday. <\/a><\/p>\n

People\u2019s Art Dublin is a voluntary, part time, non profit making group, brought together by Dublin City Council to promote the visual arts to the public of Dublin. A huge variety of art\/paintings are displayed and if the weather is nice it is a great art-filled stroll around Stephen\u2019s Green. Definitely recommended!<\/a><\/div>\n

In the last few years, the Print Museum organised a craft fair in December for Christmas. This year, however, they are moving back to the focus of their activity, which Print in Ireland.<\/a><\/p>\n

From Friday until Sunday a Witner Print Fair will take place and will showcase artists working in the medium of print – including letterpress, etching and screen-printing. There will also be some artists working in associated crafts such as illustration and origami.<\/a><\/p>\n

The current exhibition in the Science Gallery is called “Inti macy” and it will run from 19 October until 24 February. (You probably see that there is a space in the middle of the exhibition title. The exhibition is looking at Personal Space and Personal Connection. What does it mean to be connected? And what really is connection? Can we connect virtually or does it have to be real?<\/a><\/p>\n

Some of the most interesting exhibits are:<\/a><\/p>\n

+ Companion Cat and Robot Flatmate
+ Hello Machine, a phone system for spontaneous conversations with strangers
+ Measure your Personal Space
+ A virtual reality system that allows visitors to experience the world through the eyes and body of another person.<\/p>\n

All Science Gallery exhibitions are suitable for ALL ages, even younger children will be able to take part\/follow. Some of the exhibits need a bit more of an age-appropriate explanation for younger kids than others, but nearly everything can be simplified for kids.<\/a><\/p>\n

I strongly suggest to use the help of the amazing mediators, who can explain everything you see, especially if you don’t want to read all the explanations that are next to every exhibit.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Moving Crib of the St. Martin Apostolate is a whole basement full of handcrafted figures in front of painted backgrounds of nativity related scenes. There are 14 scenes, beginning with Adam and Eve and finishing with Christmas. Nearly all figures are moving and this historic crib, which was created in 1956, still fascinates children and even adults.<\/a><\/p>\n

I was there two years ago and it is indeed fascinating. It won’t blow you away, but your kids will probably be a lot more impressed than you!! ;-)<\/a><\/p>\n

People\u2019s Art Dublin is a voluntary, part time, non profit making group, brought together by Dublin City Council to promote the visual arts to the public of Dublin. The Moving Crib of the St. Martin Apostolate is a whole basement full of handcrafted figures in front of painted backgrounds of nativity related scenes. Nearly all figures are moving and this historic crib, which was created in 1956, still fascinates children and even adults.<\/a><\/p>\n

I was there two years ago and it is indeed fascinating. It won’t blow you away, but your kids will probably be a lot more impressed than you!! ;-)<\/a><\/p>\n

Admission is free, but for the upkeep of the crib, a donation is very much appreciated.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Moving Crib of the St. Martin Apostolate is a whole basement full of handcrafted figures in front of painted backgrounds of nativity related scenes. There are 14 scenes, beginning with Adam and Eve and finishing with Christmas. Nearly all figures are moving and this historic crib, which was created in 1956, still fascinates children and even adults.<\/a><\/p>\n

I was there two years ago and it is indeed fascinating. It won’t blow you away, but your kids will probably be a lot more impressed than you!! ;-)<\/a><\/p>\n

Admission is free, but for the upkeep of the crib, a donation is very much appreciated.<\/a><\/p>\n

The National Foodball Exhibition has been launched in Dublin and will be on show from 02-09 December and will then travel to seven other venues around Ireland until 2020 and will finally be in Dublin again in June 2020.<\/a><\/p>\n

“The Exhibition is made up of six zones, with each zone designed to give you an overview of the various different aspects of football in Ireland, the impact this has around the country, some of your favourite and most memorable National and International moments and a look at some of the most iconic moments over the last 60 years of the EUROs. The zones will be made up of memorabilia displays and interactive stations with videos, quizzes and an opportunity to step up to the mic and record your own commentary.”<\/a><\/p>\n

There is also an app for Android and iOS that will serve as an audio guide when you are at the exhibition.<\/a><\/p>\n

I’d say this is a MUST GO exhibition for every fan of Irish Football!<\/a><\/p>\n

The Dublin Flea Christmas Market is back and this year it will run over two weekends and again from Thursday until Sunday. It will happen again at the Point Village, in the same building where the cinema is. Admission is free and the opening hours are Thurs + Fri 12:30-18:30. The two market weekends are 06-09 December and 13-16 December.<\/a><\/p>\n

At each weekend there will be approx. 140 stalls at the market, but the second weekend will have DIFFERENT stalls than the first, so don’t just go on once weekend and think you are done. You have to come the second weekend as well. ;-)<\/a><\/p>\n

This is the biggest Christmas Market in Dublin this year. It is an indoor market in a modern building, so not really comparable to the Christmas Markets I keep raving about (and which we don’t have in Ireland), but at least it is a “big market at Christmas”.<\/a><\/p>\n

Parking is a problem in the area. There is a multistorey car park, but it is pricey and limited in space. So if possible come by LUAS.<\/a><\/div>\n

The National Foodball Exhibition has been launched in Dublin and will be on show from 02-09 December and will then travel to seven other venues around Ireland until 2020 and will finally be in Dublin again in June 2020.<\/a><\/p>\n

“The Exhibition is made up of six zones, with each zone designed to give you an overview of the various different aspects of football in Ireland, the impact this has around the country, some of your favourite and most memorable National and International moments and a look at some of the most iconic moments over the last 60 years of the EUROs. The zones will be made up of memorabilia displays and interactive stations with videos, quizzes and an opportunity to step up to the mic and record your own commentary.”<\/a><\/p>\n

There is also an app for Android and iOS that will serve as an audio guide when you are at the exhibition.<\/a><\/p>\n

I’d say this is a MUST GO exhibition for every fan of Irish Football!<\/a><\/p>\n

The Dublin Flea Christmas Market is back and this year it will run over two weekends and again from Thursday until Sunday. It will happen again at the Point Village, in the same building where the cinema is. Admission is free and the opening hours are Thurs + Fri 12:30-18:30. The two market weekends are 06-09 December and 13-16 December.<\/a><\/p>\n

At each weekend there will be approx. 140 stalls at the market, but the second weekend will have DIFFERENT stalls than the first, so don’t just go on once weekend and think you are done. You have to come the second weekend as well. ;-)<\/a><\/p>\n

This is the biggest Christmas Market in Dublin this year. It is an indoor market in a modern building, so not really comparable to the Christmas Markets I keep raving about (and which we don’t have in Ireland), but at least it is a “big market at Christmas”.<\/a><\/p>\n

Parking is a problem in the area. There is a multistorey car park, but it is pricey and limited in space. So if possible come by LUAS.<\/a><\/div>\n

The Dun Laoghaire Christmas Market will open on 24 November and run until 23 December every Friday from 12:30-19:00 and on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00-19:00. The market area is not huge, it goes along the “Metals”, which is from the Dun Laoghaire’s MarineRoad near the City Hall (40 Foot Pub) towards the LexiCon library along the Queen’s Road, along the harbour.<\/a><\/p>\n

There will be a number of stalls with art and craft and seasonal food. A Vintage Funfair with Ferris Wheel will run in parallel with the Christmas Market.<\/a><\/p>\n

“Women in a Viking World- The Finglas Burial in Context” is a talk that is part of the “Culture Club” series of events. <\/p>\n

The Viking female burial found at Finglas in 2004 was richly furnished and was the first to be discovered in Ireland for over 100 years. Maeve Sikora, Keeper of Irish Antiquities, National Museum of Ireland will look at the evidence for female burial in the early Viking Age in the collection of the National Museum of Ireland and explore how gender was expressed through grave-goods.<\/p>\n

Something seriously wrong here! EU Leaders Salaries<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the week I found a list of EU Salaries that was posted on Facebook and if you look through that list you realise that something is SERIOUSLY wrong in Ireland!<\/a><\/p>\n

Formatting of tables with lots of numbers doesn’t work so well here, but I hope you will see the blatant discrepancy between the salaries and the size of the countries. And I don’t care who is the head of our little country (or its government) and also is it irrelevant that some salary cuts have already been “endured” by the Taoiseach.<\/a><\/p>\n

I don’t knowmuch about this party and in no way support or endorse it. A brief “Fact check” on a Wikipedia Page here<\/a> did indicate that the numbers in general seem to be at least in the right region. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
