Hi all!<\/p>\n

This is the last Dublin Event Guide for 2015! In total it is the 445th edition and since the start in June 2007, there has not been a single week when you had to miss the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events)! So, I won’t start with that this week either and have produced another one for you. There will be some events listed that won’t take place because I was not able to check all regular events regarding their status between Christmas and New Year.<\/p>\n

I Hope you had a great Christmas and are now getting ready for 2016! Have a great start of the new year!!<\/p>\n

If you want the Dublin Event Guide to be there for you in 2016 also, please consider to help. In December we are short by EUR 100, so that means I will have to find EUR 290 in January to pay the bills. Any help with that is appreciated.<\/p>\n

Please don’t forget that there are two areas the Dublin Event Guide needs your continued help with every week: Your donations<\/a> help paying the bills for sending the Dublin Event Guide every week, so please help if you can. Just 1 Euro per month (12 Euro per year) would be great. Unfortunately not many subscribers are prepared to or able to help, so please don’t rely on others!<\/p>\n

And secondly: without you spreading the word we would have never reached 24,000 subscribers and 60,000 Facebook Likes. But it is just the start!! The goals are MUCH bigger than that! :-) Imagine if everyone just got ONE additional person to subscribe to the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events). That would be an immediate increase by a few thousand subscribers. Can you help?<\/p>\n

Here is the explanation regarding donations: To send the Dublin Event Guide and for domain names and for web hosting, I have a monthly bill of EUR 190 to cover. This is not for me, but all that money goes directly to external service providers. I am working approx. 35 hours on the Dublin Event Guide every week and don’t make any cent, that’s why I ask you to help with the cost if you can. If you can spare EUR 1 per month (that’s just 25 cent per edition!!) please donate EUR 12 for the year (or more if you can …or even less if you can’t). Christmas Markets are over and now we should celebrate New Year’s Eve, but there are limited opportunities. Even th NYF Dublin Festival has been shrunk to size and there is no music event at Meeting House Square on 01 Jan this year. There is also no Fireworks this year, not even in Dun Laoghaire, so the options very limited.<\/p>\n

The Moving Crib of the St. Martin Apostolate is a whole basement full of handcrafted figures in front of painted backgrounds of nativity related scenes. There are 14 scenes, beginning with Adam and Eve and finishing with Christmas. Nearly all figures are moving and this historic crib, which was created in 1956, still fascinates children (and some adults!)<\/p>\n

Admission is free, but for the upkeep of the crib, a donation of EUR 1.50 per person is suggested.<\/p>\n

Before Christmas, the Dundrum Town Centre did screen a (personalisable) 5 min Christmas Short Film on their unique waterscreen (the screen on which the projection is made is “made” of flowing water). Now that Christmas is over and the screen is still there, they made the good decision to give it a new purpose and from 26 Dec until 31 Dec, a “Countdown to 2016” film will be screened.<\/p>\n

The screenings start every day at 16:40 and will continue until closing time of the Dundrum Centre. It will take place outdoors and the screen is standing in the Mill Pond.<\/p>\n

Before Christmas, the Dundrum Town Centre did screen a (personalisable) 5 min Christmas Short Film on their unique waterscreen (the screen on which the projection is made is “made” of flowing water). Now that Christmas is over and the screen is still there, they made the good decision to give it a new purpose and from 26 Dec until 31 Dec, a “Countdown to 2016” film will be screened.<\/p>\n

The screenings start every day at 16:40 and will continue until closing time of the Dundrum Centre. It will take place outdoors and the screen is standing in the Mill Pond.<\/p>\n

Dublin’s New Year’s Festival “NYF Dublin” is made up of many components and spans three days from Wednesday 30 December until Friday 01 January. There will be a Spoken Word Festival, a Music Trail, Love Dublin (Fringe + Cultural events), 3D Light Projections, a Light Procession, a Street Fest, a Count Down Concert, Storytelling, a performance of H\u00e4ndel’s Messiah, a “Resolution Day” and a 5k Run.<\/p>\n

When you read through the list, you wonder if there are too many components, but it makes a change from a few years ago, when NOTHING happened in Dublin on New Year’s Eve.<\/p>\n

A number of components are not free and the Count Down Concert does this year NOT take place at College Green, instead it will be in the Point Depot\/3 Arena. This move might be because College Green is really not suitable for a big concert, but it is also possible that it was only moved because of the Luas works at Trinity College.<\/p>\n

In this Dublin Event Guide, you will find the free elements of the festival individually listed.<\/p>\n

The Count Down Concert, for example is EUR 34 and the smaller NYF Street Fest at St. Stephen’s Green is EUR 7.50. All in all, the NYF Dublin seems at odds with the usual Dublin City Events strategy of providing free all-inclusive events.<\/p>\n

Disappointingly, there will be NO Fireworks Display or any other free NYF Dublin special event on the streets of Dublin at midnight on 31 December.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Now that Christmas is over and the screen is still there, they made the good decision to give it a new purpose and from 26 Dec until 31 Dec, a “Countdown to 2016” film will be screened.<\/p>\n

The screenings start every day at 16:40 and will continue until closing time of the Dundrum Centre. It will take place outdoors and the screen is standing in the Mill Pond.<\/p>\n

Dublin’s New Year’s Festival “NYF Dublin” is made up of many components and spans three days from Wednesday 30 December until Friday 01 January. There will be a Spoken Word Festival, a Music Trail, Love Dublin (Fringe + Cultural events), 3D Light Projections, a Light Procession, a Street Fest, a Count Down Concert, Storytelling, a performance of H\u00e4ndel’s Messiah, a “Resolution Day” and a 5k Run.<\/p>\n

When you read through the list, you wonder if there are too many components, but it makes a change from a few years ago, when NOTHING happened in Dublin on New Year’s Eve.<\/p>\n

A number of components are not free and the Count Down Concert does this year NOT take place at College Green, instead it will be in the Point Depot\/3 Arena. This move might be because College Green is really not suitable for a big concert, but it is also possible that it was only moved because of the Luas works at Trinity College.<\/p>\n

In this Dublin Event Guide, you will find the free elements of the festival individually listed.<\/p>\n

The Count Down Concert, for example is EUR 34 and the smaller NYF Street Fest at St. Stephen’s Green is EUR 7.50. All in all, the NYF Dublin seems at odds with the usual Dublin City Events strategy of providing free all-inclusive events.<\/p>\n

Disappointingly, there will be NO Fireworks Display or any other free NYF Dublin special event on the streets of Dublin at midnight on 31 December.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dublin’s New Year’s Festival “NYF Dublin” is made up of many components and spans three days from Wednesday 30 December until Friday 01 January. There will be a Spoken Word Festival, a Music Trail, Love Dublin (Fringe + Cultural events), 3D Light Projections, a Light Procession, a Street Fest, a Count Down Concert, Storytelling, a performance of H\u00e4ndel’s Messiah, a “Resolution Day” and a 5k Run.<\/p>\n

When you read through the list, you wonder if there are too many components, but it makes a change from a few years ago, when NOTHING happened in Dublin on New Year’s Eve.<\/p>\n

A number of components are not free and the Count Down Concert does this year NOT take place at College Green, instead it will be in the Point Depot\/3 Arena. This move might be because College Green is really not suitable for a big concert, but it is also possible that it was only moved because of the Luas works at Trinity College.<\/p>\n

In this Dublin Event Guide, you will find the free elements of the festival individually listed.<\/p>\n

The Count Down Concert, for example is EUR 34 and the smaller NYF Street Fest at St. Stephen’s Green is EUR 7.50. All in all, the NYF Dublin seems at odds with the usual Dublin City Events strategy of providing free all-inclusive events.<\/p>\n

Disappointingly, there will be NO Fireworks Display or any other free NYF Dublin special event on the streets of Dublin at midnight on 31 December.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Dublin Mountains Partnership – Guided Walks<\/h2>\n

Every month the Dublin Mountain Partnership runs free guided walks in the Dublin Mountains on some Saturdays or Sundays during the month. The walks have varying difficulty and duration and the details can be found on the Dublin Mountain Partnership website: http:\/\/www.dublinmountains.ie\/news\/upcoming_events\/?no_cache=1<\/a><\/p>\n

In December there will be 4 walks\/hikes on 13+19+20+27 December. And in early January on 03+10 January, two more will follow.<\/p>\n

The Randomness of Life…and Religion!
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Due to some random coincidences, you were created by your parents. It could have easily happened that no child or a different child had been created at that time, but it was you! Wherever you are born\/frew up is also random! Sure, there might be logical or explainable conditions that influenced it, but in the bigger picture it was a coincidence and that’s why I would call “random”.<\/p>\n

Depending where you grew up, you might or might not celebrate Christmas and even if you celebrate Christmas, depending on where you (or your parents) grew up, you might or might not believe that there is a Santa Claus.<\/p>\n

I never knew about Santa Claus until I was at least 15 years of age and he never brought me any presents. Instead it was the Christchild (Christkindel) that brought the presents! Like most of you I celebrate the start of the new year on 01 January and the next year is the 2016th in my world. But if you are Chinese or Russian or many other nationalities, then the year starts on a completely different day or has a different number. How random!<\/p>\n

They are all relatively harmless randomnesses, but think about this:<\/p>\n

Due to coincindences both of my parents are catholic and as a consequence of them, I also became a catholic. Neither me not my parents decided to chose one religion over another because we thought it is “better” or “righter”, no, it was total randomness. If I had been born to Indian parents, I might be Hindu or if I had been born to Arab parents, I probably would be a Muslim.<\/p>\n

So with that in mind, it is a total coincidence what religion you belong to (if you still “belong” to the religion of your parents and haven’t changed it on the way). Yet, people of some religions feel superior or “righter” when they compare themselves to people of another religion. We even judge other human beings based on such a random coincidence? For example: “Christian good? Muslim bad?”<\/p>\n

For 2016, we should all become more aware of the randmoness in life and base our judgement on acts\/deeds\/decisions that a person takes, not on the coincidential religion of their parents or grandparents!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
