Hi all!<\/p>\n

Dublin Event Guide No 280 today!! Not the biggest “anniversary”, but round numbers are always something special. Interestingly it was No 260 when the new layout was launched and I think you all agree that the improvement is HUGE in comparison to the old Dublin Event Guide. 20 weeks later it is time to introduce another new feature or service and it is my to introduce the Dublin Event Guide Smart Phone App<\/strong> today!! Yes, a LOT of work has gone into that and a group of experts (not me!) was working on that for many many many MANY hours – parallel to their normal day job. This group of experts is from the great company iQ Content and you willr ead a bit more about them in today’s Dublin News.<\/p>\n

We all have to thank iQ Content hugely and I genuinely hope you will support me in that. They have transformed the Dublin Event Guide completely. The content has always stayed the same and is still done by me, but the layout, the look, the identity, the logo , the website and now even a smart phone app, all this could not have happened without iQ Content.<\/p>\n

So, please read the details about the app in the Dublin News and I hope you will enjoy it. It is a web app, so it is very easy to use and you find it at http:\/\/m.dublineventguide.com<\/a> but this and all the details how to proceed from there are in the Dublin News Section, just scroll down to it! As with all the events, the app is not sold, but is available completely for free, however in return you HAVE to spread the word! ;-)<\/p>\n

Now that the Dublin Event Guide not only looks nice, but is even mobile, I hope you will tell even more people about it! Oh, and make sure that they sign-up to the weekly newsletter even if they will often or maybe even mainly use the app. As you know strength is in numbers and our Dublin Event Guide Community is a lot more impactful if we stay strong and grow further, So the new app is not a replacement of the newsletter, it is just a complementary service.<\/p>\n

IQ Content organise a bit of a launch party last Wednesday for the app and I would have loved to see you all there, but I am sure you can imagine that this was not possible, so instead it was more in a smaller scale. This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will\/might or would do. This is not a “best of\u2026” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down<\/em><\/p>\n

I will be in Germany for a few days from tomorrow, so I could say that I will let you find your own “Picks” today, but let me mention a small number of things:<\/p>\n

Have a look at the Deer Rut in Phoenix Park tomorrow! An interesting event, I’d say!!<\/p>\n

Then there are a number of markets this week again. The Ha’Penny Flea Market (Say Hi to Breda, who sells great Hats there!) and the Etsy Market on Saturday and the Dublin Flea Market on Sunday.<\/p>\n

A very unusual event is the Music at Dawn on Monday at the Fumbally Exchange. Look at the time!<\/p>\n

And then there is a book launch on Wednesday by comedian Colm Regan.<\/p>\n

Brand New and Shiny Dublin Event Guide Smartphone App<\/h2>\n

May I formally introduce you to the newest addition to the Dublin Event Guide service portfolio: “Dublin for Free” is the Dublin Event Guide on the go! It is a web app that works on most smartphones and will allow you to bring the “Dublin Event Guide (For Free Events)” with you when you are out and about. It will also allow you to check out the current events when you are away from your computer or when the e-zine arrives late AGAIN on a Friday evening.The web app works on Android and on iOS and you can directly access it by putting http:\/\/m.dublineventguide.com<\/a> in your mobile browser. There is an app in the iOS store and it will be in the Google Play store in the next few days, but you don’t need to dwonload anything.<\/p>\n

Dublin Cake by La Torta Vita<\/h2>\n

La Torta Vita, a new company and the best Cake Designer in Dublin and probably in Ireland (Yes, I am a bit biased, but proove me wrong! :-) ), made a huge, wonderful and delicious Dublin Cake for the Dublin Event Guide to thank the people in iQ Content for all the work they did. The cake was a Dublin-themed cake with a big spire on it and with a whole selection of iconic Dublin buildings. You HAVE to see the cake (or the pictures of it!). Do you want to have such a wonderful event publishing environment as the Dublin Event Guide became? You can have that too! Halloween Movie Horror<\/h2>\n

The Horrorthon 2012 is taking place in the IFI (Irish Film Archive) from 25-29 Oc. The Ideal Home Show is Ireland’s Biggest Exhibition for Home Owners, and while Home Extension & Renovation, Home Energy Advice and Interior Design Advice are corner stones of the show, you will also find interesting things there if you are just interested about homes and interior design or if you plan to be a home owner in the future.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will run from Friday until Monday. Tickets for Friday and Saturday are free if you pre-register on the website. On Sun+Mon the tickets are EUR 15 per person.<\/p>\n

I quite like the show out of pure curiosity and did go regularly for the last few years, but since building, buying, renovating and extending homes became somewhat less popular, the show has suffered a bit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Sunday 28 Oct Marlay Park will be a free “fright fest of spooky thrills and chills” for Halloween. Masses of Families come to Marlay Park in their Halloween costumes every year for a spooky walk through the haunted forest with ghosts and ghouls and frightful sights. There will be “freaky fog, ghastly spiders and skeletons, creepy eyeballs and pumpkins, the spine chilling boat house preachers and menacing witches and demons.” The walk is approx. 1.5km long and is suitable for wheelchairs and buggies.<\/p>\n

Every year there are more families coming and for that reason it is required to have a free wristband this year to get admission.<\/p>\n

Wristbands can be collected at the DLR Coco Market in Marlay Park on Saturday 20+27 Oct and – if there are any wristbands left – on Sun 28 Oct from 10:00-15:00 behind Marlay House. Entry times to the Haunted Walk are 15:30, 16:30, 17:30, 18:30 and 19:30. Your wristband will be colour coded and you will only get access at the allocated time.<\/p>\n

The 33rd Dublin Marathon is taking place on Bank Holiday Monday. It will start at 09:00 and the fastest runners take just over 2 hours, but the slow walkers have 7 hours to finish the course ( http:\/\/dublinmarathon.ie\/general_course.php<\/a> ) It starts in Fitzwilliam Street and goes onto Leeson Street and Stepehen’s Green from there. The finish after 42 km is at Merrion Square. Around 13,000 participants are expected but if you want to take part, you will have to wait until next year because registration is closed since 31 August.<\/p>\n

The reason why I include it here is because it is a major spectacle in Dublin and you can cheer on the runners at lots of points throughout the city. If you plan to travel in Dublin on Monday, you better check the diversions, ( http:\/\/dublinmarathon.ie\/general_course.php<\/a> ) because traffic will be affected in many areas.<\/p>\n

For many years the Marathon was supported by Adidas and Lifestyle Sports. In 2011 the National Lottery took over as a sponsor with a 3 year plan and many people and media outlets think that they are still supporting the event, but in May the National Lottery pulled out and for that reason there is no main sponsor this year and there will also be NO TV coverage of the event, not even highlights of the race. http:\/\/www.independent.ie\/sport\/other-sports\/athletics-dublin-marathon-loses-sponsor-3096892.html<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Augustus Pugin born in March 1812, was one of the most famous architects of the Victorian era. He first visited Ireland in 1838 where he was to realise many Irish undertakings. His architecture was to have a strong influence on the Catholic culture of Ireland beyond his own day. His vision influenced other architects also, not only his son who built Cobh Cathedral, but also J. J. Celebrate 200 years of the Brother Grimms’ Fairy Tales. On Tues 30 Oct, Wed 31 Oct, Thurs 01 Nov and Fri 02 Nov at 12:00 and 15:00 each day, the Dublin City Public Libraries in Rathmines and in Cabra will present screenings of new film versions of three of the most popular of Grimms’ Fairy Tales; Rapunzel, Snow White\/Schneewitchen and Sleeping Beauty\/Dornroeschen. The screenings are in German, with English sub-titles. The familiar tales can be easily followed by viewers aged 7 to 107.<\/p>\n

After long holidays some get burned out easily! Just take some more holidays!

Our hard working TDs (Member of Parliament) had to recover from all the hard work during their summer holidays of just 8 (!!) weeks, which is – as we all agree – MUCH too short. When they came back on 18 Sept and got back into their normal work, it was soon clear that it could not continue like that. The stress was much too big, so after a very long working period of 5 WHOLE weeks, they quickly got together and agreed unanimously – something they RARELY do – to give themselves another week of holidays. What a useless shower of work-shy, overpaid gombeens!! The worst about it? That the whole “opposition”, even the socialists, independents and Sinn Fein who are normally opposing every single thing the other parties suggest, suddenly are more than happy to agree with the “enemy”. http:\/\/www.breakingnews.ie\/ireland\/tds-unite-to-give-themselves-a-weeks-holiday-571779.html<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
