Dublin Event Guide 694: Busiest week of 2021, despite lockdown! – Valentine’s Day, Dublin Chinese New Year Festival, lots of gigs, Mars landing

Dublin Event Guide (for free events)

Busiest week of 2021, despite lockdown!

Valentine’s Day, Dublin Chinese New Year Festival, lots of gigs, Mars landing.

Hi all!

Thanks for the great feedback last week about the new responsive (i.e. mobile phone compatible) and re-freshed layout! Glad that you like it. ;-) It is still very similar to the previous look but that is on purpose. Bit by bit I will be able to add a lot more features though, so what you see now is not the end, it is just the beginning. ;-)

This weekend and next week is super super busy. This edition of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) features 90 (!!!) free events and that despite a LEvel 5 lockdown. Sure, nearly all the events are online. But even online culture is culture! ;-)

Happy Chinese New Year and also Happy Valentine’s weekend! There is nothing objectionable about the Chinese New Year (I think!?), but Valentine’s Day is not loved by everybody. It is a tough day for some and an annoying day for others. Too much weight is put on it, I think. In the beginning of the Dublin Event Guide (Imagine, it was around 12 years ago, because the Dublin Event Guide will be 14 this year. :-O.)  I organised an alternative Valentine’s Day meet-up, for everybody (couples or singles) who loved the Dublin Event Guide and we were more than 100 people at it.

For me Valentine’s Day is a day that should be celebrated if you love ANYBODY. You have friends that you love? Tell them! You have family members that you love? Tell them! You love yourself? (And I hope you do!) Tell yourself! You have a partner that you love? Tell him or her! So take the obligation and pressure out of this day and just celebrate love! HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!! Me and the Dublin Event Guide love you!!! ðŸ’“

Unfortunately, Facebook doesn’t love the Dublin Event Guide as much as would be good. The reach is twindling and you are needed to change that! You know how to show your love on Facebook, right? You say something about a post or click on the links that express love. (Facebook punishes me if I use the words that start with L, C and S. :-O). IF 200 people clicked on the L, C, S links then Facebook would show the Dublin Event Guide to DOUBLE the amount of people. So, please click! It is for a good cause!! :-)

And remember, the best Dublin Event Guide experience is being had by e-mail subscribers. And you can subscribe on www.dublineventguide.com Then comes the website itself (it needs a bit of TLC, I know!) and because Facebook doesn’t like nicely formatted content, the readers on Facebook end up at the lower end of the list. This is only for Facebook readers: If you follow the link at the VERY bottom of this post you will also see the nice new layout and the FULL Dublin Event Guide. And if you just read the text version on Facebook, then it will only be a PART of the complete newsletter. The events for next week will not be posted on Facebook anymore. Sorry!

If you enjoy the great content in the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) and want to keep this weekly newsletter alive, then please consider helping with the cost for sending it. Any amount will help, but if you are looking for a recommendation, then I would suggest a donation of 12 Euro per year. That’s just one Euro per month for four, sometimes five editions, where else can you get so much value for so little cost. :-)

To donate you can use the PayPal or the Revolut link OR you can buy me a virtual coffee (I won’t drink it but will use the money to put into the Dublin Event Guide). YOUR contribution really counts! Thank you! :-)

Please donate via www.paypal.me/DublinEventGuide
or for Revolut users among you just use @joergbrb (Revolut is moving away from phone numbers and to addresses like this one.)

If PayPal or Revolut don’t work for you, you can buy one or two or even three virtual coffees (or Hot Chocolates!) for the Dublin Event Guide and you can do that on the “Buy Me a Coffee” page here www.buymeacoffee.com/DublinEventG  .

And if you come to www.DublinEventGuide.com and check out some of the ads and click on the ones that you find interesting, that also helps with a few cent!

Thank you!!

EPIC love stories through the ages
Spanning hundreds of years and dozens of countries, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum features many romantic tales of the Irish diaspora. From glamorous royals to heroic matchmakers, here are three iconic love stories from our archives to read this Valentine’s Day. epicchq.com/story/epic-love-stories-through-the-ages/

HOME SCHOOL PARENTS, READ THIS!
Are you battling with your kids over home schooling? Feeling that you are doing a bad job? And your kids are feeling that they are failing?

Read this great piece by writer Christine Derengowski about her realisation when battling with her 7 year old son:
www.facebook.com/christine.zito.derengowski.writer/posts/445912180096673
Here is the start of her story:

I’ve lost a year with my kids battling over school and I’m done.
My seven year old and I were in the midst of our usual asynchronous day battle. I had his writing homework in my hand from school. He’d written several full, well-thought-out sentences.
But he won’t do the same for me, at least not without a fight.
I told him he didn’t have to write about his best day like his teacher asked, he could write about his worst. He could write about whatever he wanted as long as he wrote a few sentences.
He said he’d get in trouble. He said he was doing a bad job in first grade. He was on the brink of tears but didn’t know why.
And it hit me.
Instead of getting frustrated and pushing the assignment, I sat down with him at his desk in his superhero bedroom.
I said “you won’t get in trouble and you can’t fail first grade. In fact, you’re kind of a superhero yourself.”
He sat up in his chair just a little and looked at me with disbelief. …….

CHINESE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL
The Dublin Chinese New Year Festival is coming to an end this weekend, but the Hill Street Family Resource Centre’s Chinese New Year Community Celebration only started on Friday and will run for 15 days. It is an online festival and the events are all listed on this downloadable PDF www.dublinlunarnewyear.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/2021-Final-Schedule-of-Events.pdf

LEARN A NEW SKILL WITH ONLINE COURSES – Special Offer
Is learning a new skill part of your plans for the new year? Maybe it is a language or an instrument or some technical skills? Or NLP or some Business related “soft skills”? Check out Udemy via the link below, they have thousands of courses and there is good chance that what you are looking for is available.
The lowest cost for courses this month will be around 12.99. Check out the website at shor.by/GqCk And if you buy through that link, you help the Dublin Event Guide! ;-)

READ MORE BOOKS WHILE IN LOCKDOWN
For physical books and e-books I recommend Book Depository because they are usually cheaper than others and they always include delivery for free and by using this link you help the Dublin Event Guide when you purchase a book and it doesn’t cost you a cent: shor.by/BookDepository  .

And this is it for another week! Have a good weekend and new week.

Take care,

–Joerg
