Hi all!

A super busy week as far as events are concerned and the waether has been and is still good, so there should be smiles all around! I tired a slightly different workflow approach while I was putting the Dublin Event Guide together over the last two days, but it hasn’t been the right approach yet. More work needed on it. I might even go down the route and ask a small number of people to help me a bit. Would you be interested? You can let me know via dublineventguide@gmail.com

[ad]

Your help is already needed every week! Your generous donations help paying the bills for sending the Dublin Event Guide every week and without you spreading the word we would have never reached 23,000 subscribers and 55,000 Facebook Likes. But it is just the start!! The goal is 50,000 subscribers and 100,000 Facebook Likes! Big goals, I know, but I believe we can achieve it! Imagine if everyone just got ONE additional person to subscribe to the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events). That would be an immediate increase by a few thousand subscribers. Would be super!!!! Can you help?

For donations go to www.perfectresults.info/donate.htm and the link to subscribe is here: www.dublineventguide.com.

—-

Here is the explanation regarding donations: To send the Dublin Event Guide and for domain names and for web hosting, I have a monthly bill of EUR 190 to cover. This is not for me, but all that money goes directly to external service providers. I am working approx. 35 hours on the Dublin Event Guide every week and don’t make any cent, that’s why I ask you to help with the cost if you can. If you can spare EUR 1 per month (that’s just 25 cent per edition!!) please donate EUR 12 for the year (or more if you can …or even less if you can’t). You can make your donation at www.perfectresults.info/donate.htm using Paypal or CreditCard or send me a mail dublineventguide@gmail.com and I can suggest other ways. I am also looking for some corporate sponsors as well, if you know someone, send them my way. :-)

And finally – I can’t say it often enough: Please help spreading the word about the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events). Your friends can easily subscribe at www.dublineventguide.com and they will get a weekly e-mail magazine with all the free events in Dublin if they subscribe. They don’t have to pay a cent (but donations are very welcome!) for that and their e-mail address is completely safe with me! More than 23,000 people receive the Dublin Event Guide every week and we are more than 55,000 people at the Dublin Event Guide Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/DublinEventGuide Check it out and click on LIKE when you are there.

And this is a great opportunity to help the Dublin Event Guide for absolutely no cost to you:

Without putting your hand in your pocket (for the Dublin Event Guide) at all you can help by ALWAYS using the ad links in the Dublin News Section and the ads in the Dublin Event Guides when you buy/order goods. If you buy goods immediately (in the same session) after clicking on a link/ad that you find in this e-zine/newsletter (Groupon, LivingSocial, Amazon, Book Depository, LastMinute etc), you help the Dublin Event Guide everytime. This is how it works: The company you buy from (Groupon, Amazon, LivingSocial, Book Depository etc) registers that you came to them via a link from the Dublin Event Guide and they show their appreciation by giving a small commission (5-8%) to the Dublin Event Guide. This might only be 30 cent a go, but if you did that for all online purchases and if lots of people used it, then it could make a big dent into the EUR 190 needed. Use these links as often as possible it doesn’t cost you a cent and you help big time!

Have an event-full weekend and week,

–Joerg

Feel good slot

The “Feel Good Slot” at this place in the Dublin Event Guide is to share some inspirational, motivational or thought provoking quotes, stories or video clips. You wonder why I added this section to this e-mail magazine? If your week was great, you might not need it, but most of us had some challenging moments in the last week and there could be more in the coming week and this section is for the people that want to overcome the hurdles, achieve more and remember that despite all, life is great!

Today’s feel good slot is very very simple, but something to keep in mind:

An expert in anything was once just a beginner!

So if you haven’t achieved the success you want yet, if you want to be an expert but are not there yet, don’t dispair, keep working on it! You are on the right way!

Support

This part is important to “keep the show on the road”:

To cover the cost for the Dublin Event Guide I need your help and every week generous and nice Dublin Event Guide readers help with a donation.

Last week Siobhan B, Vincent P, Carol McN, Nicola R were so great to support the Dublin Event Guide with a donation. I really appreciate all the help and keep in mind that without donations there won’t be a Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events): Your donation will ensure that the Dublin Event Guide will continue arriving in your Inbox every week and every donation will benefit EVERY Dublin Event Guide reader!

The cost for sending the weekly newsletter is approx. EUR 190 per month and a donation from you of just EUR 12 per year will ensure that I will be able to pay the bills.
Has the Dublin Event Guide helped you to find events that you otherwise wouldn’t have known about, or have you saved money by finding great free events? Then go to here and give something back!

I appreciate ANY help: EUR 12 would be great (that’s just 25 cent per week!), but even if it is just the price of 2 pints it will help.

You can donate online by following this link to the PayPal&CreditCard donation page. If you want to transfer your donation directly to my account, just send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com and I will send you the details.

EventbriteThe main sponsor is Eventbrite and their support is hugely appreciated! Eventbrite enables people all over the world to plan, promote, and sell out any event, and has sold over 200 million tickets and registrations worldwide, totalling more than $3 billion in gross ticket sales. Eventbrite is free for free events. The online event registration service makes it easy for everyone to discover events, and to share the events they are attending with the people they know. In this way, Eventbrite brings communities together by encouraging people to connect through live experiences.

All events listed in this Event Guide are free of any admission charges (or at least appear to be free) unless otherwise stated. I try to find confirmation in all cases and do my best to double-check the information. However errors can happen and therefore no promise for correctness can be given.

Joergs Picks

This section is intended to provide some help in picking and choosing from the huge number of events by sharing with you what I will/might or would do. This is not a “best of…” list and if an event is not listed here, it by no means implies that the event is not interesting. Instead my “picks” are just based on my personal preferences. All events mentioned here are described in detail further down.

My picks this week are the Musictown Festival with all its events, the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival, the Science Gallery Lifelogging exhibition because it ends on Friday already, the Fusion Sunday World Culture Market, Milk & Cookies Stories, the best storytelling event, and there is Spring Awakening a Culture Day for Dublin 1! Lots of good events, enjoy them!

Competitions

P-p-p-pick up a pen! – Writing Classes – Competition

Wednesdays 15 April – 20 May – 18:30-20:30
Fumbally Exchange, Dame Lane, Dublin 2

Edel Corrigan, a copywriter and novelist and who has a M. Phil in Creative Writing from Trinity College is running a 6-week writing class in Fumbally Exchange, where you will learn how to write. From the extreme beginners who haven’t written anything more in-depth than an email since school to the writer with a short story or start of a novel stuffed away in a drawer, you’ll get writing prompts to get you going, advice on how to keep going, feedback if you desire it and a place and a space to begin writing.

Every class will be focused around writing prompts designed to get you writing from the very beginning of the course. Whether you feel you don’t have a “voice” or the courage to p-p-pick up a pen, these easy exercises will have you scribbling away in no time.

You will lose the fear and will reach freedom from the fear that, “you can’t” or “you’re not good enough”. Anyone can write – sign up and discover your writing voice.

To sign-up or to find out more, contact Edel at edel.corrigan@gmail.com or on 086-2380097. The six-week course with 2 hours per class is EUR 150.

For one super lucky Dublin Event Guide reader the news will be very good, because you will be able to win the full course. To enter the competition you have to send a mail to dublineventguide@gmail.com with the subject EDEL and with your name and mobile phone number in the body of the mail. The draw will be a random draw, but I would love to hear from you why you want to win the course. I will read every single mail. Your mail has to be with me by 12:00 on Mon 13 April.

If you know you want to do the course, you can book it with Edel AND enter the competition and if you are the winner of this competition, then you will get your money back or don’t have to pay it. So don’t wait!

Please also note that if the course doesn’t find enough people that will book it, it won’t take place and in that case, understandably, I won’t be able to do the prize draw.

Promote your product or event through a competition!

If you want to reach more than 23,000 people with a product promotion or an event promotion for a non-free event, contact me on dublineventguide@gmail.com and we can discuss the options. You provide the prize for the competition and the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) runs the competition for you. It couldn’t be simpler.

And if you want me to use/test a product you are selling and then share my assessment here in the Dublin Event Guide, we can talk about that too. I like testing out gear. ;-) [Currently I am looking to buy a high spec Android mobile phone and an action camera and would happily “test drive” some candidates.]

Dublin news

Help the Dublin Event Guide! It won’t cost you a cent!

Do you enjoy free events? Does it help you to find out about all these free events simply in one e-mail magazine or on one website? Does the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) deliver all this for you and maybe even more? In that case, you probably also would want it to continue forever, right?

To achieve that some money is needed. Donations are a great help, but not everyone feels they can donate at the moment. So here is the solution: If you could help with a donation without having to pay a cent from your own money wouldn’t that be cool? You can!!

When you buy books online, buy them from Book Depository or from Amazon and use these links to go to the website:

Book Depository
Amazon

And when you buy from Living Social or Groupon use these links:

Groupon
LivingSocial

When you buy holidays (from Lastminute.com, Expedia or Hotels.com) or other products buy them via clicking on the links below:

HMV | | Vodafone | Pixmania
Expedia
| Lastminute.com | Hotels.com

When you click on the link and then buy, your books/products/holidays etc cost exactly the same as if you went to the website directly. But if you go via the links above, the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) will get 5-8% of what you spend as a commission. That’s not a lot, but if you and lots of other people used that link every time, it would amount to a fair amount of crucially important money. Use the links often, actually EVERY time you buy from the relevant site, not just once!

Giving money for free! That’s how easy it is. ;-) THANK YOU!!!

And if you want to donate money directly, then you can do that here: www.perfectresults.info/donation.htm

Dublin City Soul Festival needs your help!

The Dublin City Soul Festival is one of the events that triggered me to start publishing the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) many years ago. It is a super event that is running now for 8 years, but it has not been easy 8 years for Chris Maher and his team. There is a yearly struggle to get the money together to run this free festival.

Funding from Dublin City and Failte Ireland are big contributions but they are not enough to cover all the cost. So this year the Dublin City Soul Festival is running a fundit campaign to get additional essential funds. They are looking for EUR 15,000, a significant amount!

There are 13 more days to raise that money but only 9 people have donated and more help is needed.

Every year thousands of people have a super two days at this family-friendly Open Air event in Merrion Square and it would be a huge pity if the event were to disappear. If you also love the Dublin City Soul Festival and would like it to continue, check out the fundit campaign and maybe you can help. Find all details here: www.fundit.ie/project/2015-dublin-city-soul-festival

Dublin: One City, One Book – Festival

The “Dublin: One City, One Book” Festival is a yearly festival in April during which one selected book that features Dublin is celebrated with a whole variety of events. This year the people selecting a book couldn’t decide and chose not one but THREE books, but they are in one trilogy, so there is a link. The chosen books are The Commitments, The Snapper and The Van by Roddy Doyle and these books are also called the Barrytown Trilogy. The festival website is here www.dublinonecityonebook.ie/ and the free events during the festival will be included in the Dublin Event Guide from now until the end of April. There will be lots of non-free events as well and you can find them at www.dublinonecityonebook.ie/events

Opportunities

The former “Opportunities” section is now Eventbrite’s section to highlight some of the events they – as the main sponsor of the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events) – would particularly like to bring to your attention. Many events listed here will be free, but there will be a non-free event in the list as well and they will be marked as non-free.

Exhibitions

Based on your feedback, I have decided to do the following with the Exhibition section in this newsletter from now on: I will provide you with a link to a near-comprehensive listing of exhibitions provided by www.visualartists.ie . For me to list all exhibitions would only be doubling their good work and would be an inefficient use of my resources. The link is www.visualartists.ie/category/listings/dublin/

On top of that I will every now and then include here a small selection of exhibitions that either are not mentioned in the Visual Artist listing or are note-worthy to be mentioned separately.

The Counterpoint is a musical term that describes the combination of two or more melodic lines in such a way that they establish a harmonic relationship while retaining their linear individuality.

Spanish painter Jordi Forniés is currently in Asia for two research masters: one based on the interaction of painting and music, with the Lasalle College of the Arts (in Singapore) and Goldsmiths University of London, and another one based on the use of unconventional materials in painting with The University of Sydney.

Walking the Storyline Exhibition – Jo Jobson

11 April – 30 May (Mon-Sat 12:30-17:30 + most evenings Tues – Sat)

Mill Theatre, Dundrum Town Centre. Dundrum, Dublin 16

Illustrator Jo Jobson is inspired by the narratives that shape our lives: the stories, poetry and drama that we share and are entertained by. She also draws inspiration from the underlying narratives of the mundane, the everyday objects we use and the human experiences we cannot avoid. Her love of fairytales and folklore from all over the world comes across in her work and she likes to explore their underlying themes – along with how they can connect with our own experiences.

Jo has been drawing, painting and illustrating all her life. Whilst living in Japan and Poland, in particular, she was very impressed by the art work produced by the people there. It continues to influence her work to this day.

This time it is an exhibition (for ages 4+) called “Once upon a Picture”: Every artwork has a story to tell! Sometimes worlds cross over and strange things happen – humans take on animal form, objects shrink or grow, people dream enchanted dreams and things are not always as they seem. Let your imagination run wild as you explore this exhibition of artworks that are mysterious, alluring and magical. Have fun imagining what the artworks are about and what stories they tell.

There is an Eventbrite Page below where you can get a ticket, but you don’t need to bring a ticket at all, just show up. Admission is free,

Lifelogging – Science Gallery Exhibition

12:00 – 18:00, Sat 11 Apr

Science Gallery, Pearse Street, TCD, Dublin 2

This is the last week of this exhibition already, so if you still haven’t seen it, go this weekend!!

“Lifelogging – Do you count?” is the title of the newest Science Gallery exhibition, which started on Friday 13 Feb and will run until 17 April.

Lifelogging is part exhibition, part Science Gallery Lab where you can take part in research projects and it deals with us tracking ourselves, measuring things we do and logging everything from heartbeat to heartbreak.

Get a taste for tracking as you play games with your emotions, use your brainwaves to sort files, generate music wearing sensors, and explore a virtual world filled with real dreams and memories.

The exhibits at this exhibition are fascinating: There is George Reynolds who recorded his health on paper since 2003. A sensible and understandable version of lifelogging. On the other end of the spectrum is Alberto Frigo who takes a picture every times he holds an object with his right hand. He started in 2003 and plans to continue until 2040. On the surface it doesn’t make sense AT ALL. But when you talk to him, you find out that there is a surprising sense to what he does.

The exhibition contains 16 exhibits some so odd that you should get the super helpful and knowledgeable Science Gallery mediators to help you understand what is behind it.

In one area, every week another group/organisation will involve you in their work (the Lab part) and I will explain their project in a separate event posting in the weekly Dublin Event Guide.

Admission to the Science Gallery is free. Opening hours are Tues-Fri 12:00-20:00 and Sat+Sun 12:00-18:00.

Things We Throw Away – Street Opera

You don’t have to be highbrow to enjoy opera, a fact that Wide Open Opera will ably demonstrate with their series of pop up operas on the streets of the city. Everyday stories told through the dramatic medium of opera. Live singing with a pre-recorded soundtrack by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra conducted by Fergus Sheil.

Wide Open Opera are a dynamic Irish opera company who are bringing a range of opera experiences to Irish audiences and championing new and Irish artists and composers.

There are some hugely talented people among them and it is a great idea to meet up with others who have the same hobby. Find out on their website below or on their Facebook Page where they will meet and join them if you do some sketching/drawing yourself. Trinity Week

08:00, Mon 13 Apr

Trinity College, Dublin 2

Trinity Week is the yearly celebration of academic and scholarly achievements of staff and students in Trinity College Dublin. Every year it is somewhat unlcear if the MANY free events are only for students and staff or for everybody, but this year I found the statement “The public are invited to participate in this week long programme which will include exciting events which demonstrate the key role light possesses in all its forms and how it affects and enhances life, both now and for the future.” So if “Public” means “Public”, then we are definitely welcome to take part.

The theme this year is “Light” and there are a HUGE amount of events. So many, that I can’t list them all here, but luckily the website is really good and nicely organises the events by day. Trinity Week runs from Monday (13 April) until Friday (17 April). All (or nearly all) events are free, but some require booking, so have a look at the list and enjoy the great programme.

All details can be found here: www.tcd.ie/trinityweek/

Computer Intelligence with Kevin Koidl and Parsa Ghaffari

18:00 – 19:00, Mon 13 Apr

Science Gallery, Pearse Street, TCD, Dublin 2

Lifelogging Lab residents, Bigfoot and AYLIEN, are back and ready to set the record straight on computer intelligence.

Human-beings are exceptionally good at communicating with one another, and the ability to understand another person through language comes so naturally that we mostly take it for granted. We increasingly use technology to codify our language into messages that carry our most personal intentions and desires. How do computers understand these complex interactions and turn it into something to benefit humans?

Join Kevin Koidl and Parsa Ghaffari in their talk as they explore the efforts and attempts championed so far by humanity at teaching our silicon-minded friends to master communication and language.

Intel in the Lab in the Science Gallery – Lifelogging

12:00 – 18:00, Tue 14 Apr

Science Gallery, Pearse Street, TCD, Dublin 2

From Tuesday until Thursday, Intel will run the last “Lab in the Science Gallery” at the current Lifelogging exhibition because the exhibition is coming to a close on Friday 17 April.

Intel will show the work of Anouk Wipprecht, an experimental designer who is pushing the boundaries of wearable technology and showing how personal data can be represented in our clothes, using computer chips embedded in two beautifully designed and 3D printed dresses.

The Lab will feature an interactive exhibit of the Intel Edison powered Spider Smart Dress and the Synapse Smart Dress. Both dresses blend fashion with wearable technology, and are capable of expressing the wearer’s emotions. The Spider dress integrates Intel’s Edison chip and a range of sensors to show on the outside what the wearer is feeling within. It also measures people’s proximity to the wearer and if they are making her feel uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the Synapse dress monitors the EEG brain activity and heart rate of its wearer, and communicates this data via lighting embedded in the dress.

Admission to the Lab in the Science Gallery is free.

Milk and Cookies Stories – Storytelling

18:00 – 22:00, Tue 14 Apr

Irish Writers’ Centre, 19 Parnell Square North, Dublin 1

Milk and Cookie Stories is a storytelling event for for anyone who has a story to tell, or wants to hear a tale told well, in a relaxed, friendly environment.

Admission is free, everyone is welcome and stories of all kinds are welcome. If you would like to tell a story, just come along and sign up on the night, or “if you feel inspired to share your own home-baked goods with Dublin’s friendliest audience, we’ll also be having our awesome Bake-Off.”

This month, inspired by April Fool’s Day, the stories should be of trickery, anecdotes of the ultimate pranks and tales of risk and reward. The theme is “Risk It For A Biscuit”.

There will also be a featured storyteller. Gordon McCormick has a very special talent allowing him to pull off an epic form of storytelling that to others would be risky, but he makes it look effortless. He has the ability to create a story interweaving through the worlds of stories told before his own on the night. So pay close attention to the stories of the night!

Intel in the Lab in the Science Gallery – Lifelogging

12:00 – 18:00, Wed 15 Apr

Exiles and Expatriates in the History of Knowledge – Lecture

19:00, Wed 15 Apr

National Library, Kildare Street, Dublin 2

How do historians choose the topics that they write about? For personal reasons, or as a response to the debates of their own time? For example, the recent rise of interest in the history of knowledge looks very much like a reaction to discussions of today’s ‘knowledge economy’ or ‘information society’. Again, there is increasing interest in the history of migration, whether forced or voluntary, at a time when unprecedented numbers of people are on the move.

Prof Peter Burke (Emeritus Professor of Cultural History, Emmanuel College, Cambridge) and Prof Raymond Gillespie (Maynooth University) will discuss this.

Professor Burke’s current research on exiles and expatriates in the history of knowledge therefore follows a common pattern. Among its case-studies are the Protestant exiles of the 16th and 17th centuries (especially after 1685) and the Jewish exiles of the 20th century (especially after 1933 and 1938). The lecture will focus still more sharply on refugee historians such as Jacques Basnage or Pierre Bayle in the 17th century, Hans Baron, Geoffrey Elton, Peter Gay and Eric Hobsbawm in the 20th century.

Admission is free and no booking required.

The Revolution will not be funded – Comhlamh First Wednesday Debate

19:00, Wed 15 Apr

Twisted Pepper, 54 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1

The next Comhlamh “First” Wednesday Debate has the topic “The Revolution will not be funded” and behind that theme is an interesting topic:

What have decades of professionalisation meant for the capacity of the not-for-profit sector to effectively challenge the political agenda? Has the pressure of threats to funding led to a shying away from engaging with grassroots activism? What impact does a distancing from the political process have on our ability to effect radical change?

As a membership-based NGO, Comhlámh wants to open a space to discuss these questions, to critically reflect on the role of an NGO in challenging an austerity agenda that’s responsible for the cutbacks facing organisations in the community sector.

An array of speakers from the community and NGO sector will contribute:
+ Brian Harvey (independent social researcher)
+ Hans Zomer (Director of Dóchas, the Irish national platform of Development NGOs)
+ Rita Fagan (grassroots activist)
+ Eilish Dillon (Co-ordinator of Education and Training Programmes at Kimmage DSC) — Moderator

Admission is free and more details about speakers and topic can be found on the Facebook Page below.

Intel in the Lab in the Science Gallery – Lifelogging

12:00 – 18:00, Thu 16 Apr

In The Psychologists’ Chair – Talk

13:00 – 14:00, Thu 16 Apr

National College of Ireland, IFSC, Mayor Street, Dublin 1

The next topic of the talkseries “In the Psychologists’ Chair” is “Politics in the Brain: dictators, democracy, demonstrations and the struggle for power” by Prof Ian Robertson (Professor of Psychology at Trinity College Dublin and founding director of Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience). A very very interesting topic not only to analyse behaviour of politicians but also of protesters!

He explains his lecture like this:
The philosopher, mathematician and peace activist Lord Bertram Russell said that power was the essential substance of human relationships in the way that energy is the fundamental entity in physics. He believed that power is man’s (and woman’s) ultimate goal. In this lecture I will show that power is one of the most potent brain-changing agents known to humanity and how political life is essentially a struggle to gain power, and then to find ways of protecting people from its effects on the brains of people who hold it. I will discuss how in-group feeling can empower individuals, but that a common consequence of strong in-group feelings is that they tend to dehumanise the out-group: this is one of the mechanisms by which people in groups may behave in ways in which they would not behave on their own. In this lecture I will explain the neuropsychology of power and attempt to understand different types of political behaviour in terms of the underlying brain processes.

Trinity Week

08:00, Fri 17 Apr

This is odd

Please note: This section contains observations taken from the world I live in that strike me as odd. I express my personal opinion and you might not share it. ;-) If you are easily offended by opinions that are not identical with your own, please don’t read this section and I am VERY serious about that!

UPS screw up. Common sense in scarce supply!

Last week I ordered some device from a company in China. The company gave three options for sending the item to Ireland. The first in the list is UPS, the second is DHL and the third is EMS. I wasn’t too sure which to choose, but in the end I went with UPS.

My order was sent by UPS Expedited, which means that it should be with me within 2-5 days, according to UPS.

It was over Easter, so the sending got delayed nearly everywhere, but thanks to UPS’ tracking, I saw how it bit by bit edged closer. From Shenzhen to Korea, then to Cologne, then to Dublin and then to Shannon and onwards to Cork. WOW! WHAT? HOLD ON! What is my parcel doing in Cork???? I don’t live in Cork! I was puzzled at first, but then it dawned on me: I live in Blackrock, Co. Dublin and there is a Blackrock Co. Cork!!

So I rang UPS to check why they sent the parcel to Cork. On the Parcel Tracking system the destination was listed as “Blackrock, Dubli”. And what does UPS tell me? The destination address was incomplete and therefore the parcel was sent to the wrong destination. Ahem, can we look at that again? The address seemingly says “Blackrock, Dubli”, so yes, they are correct. It is incomplete because the letter “n” is missing in “Dublin”. But where does it say “Cork”? How would anybody come up with the idea to ignore “Dubli” and instead send the parcel to a place that is not even mentioned on the label???

I would understand it if Blackrock, Co. Cork was massive, but that is not the case either. Blackrock in Co. Cork has approx. 3000 inhabitants (it is a tiny part of Cork City) and not even mentioned in the CSO census figures. Blackrock Co. Dublin on the other hand has about 30,000 inhabitants. So would it not makes sense to send the parcel to the 10 times bigger place at first? The probability of getting it right is significantly bigger!?

UPS screwed up and they clearly have no clue. Sure they tell me that it was an automated system that decided my parcel would go to Cork, but first of all a human being has programmed that automated system. In addition you would expect from a professional company that an incomplete or wrong address raises an alarm and gets a human being to double check the address, but you would only expect that from a a company that knows what they are doing. God, I wish I had chosen DHL!!

Now Cork is not tooo far from Dublin, so that should just cost an additional day and it did not delay it more, but the parcel is still not with me 10 days later (Screw the “expedited” shipment promise of 2-5 days!) What happened? Despite UPS bragging that they do the import handling, it seems that they decided to let customs to have a good look at my parcel and that’s where it is stuck for the last 2 days and nothing will happen there over the weekend either. So instead of 2-5 days, it will be – at best – 11-12 days! Arghhhhh!

Have an event-full weekend and week,

The Guide is a _Guide_ and not just a listing and is therefore at times quite extensive. It is sent for free to anybody who is interested and if you want to be added to the mailing list or know somebody who would like to receive this guide, just send them to www.dublineventguide.com, where they can subscribe. If you have feedback – good or bad – PLEASE tell me via dublineventguide@gmail.com.
