A weekly car boot sale, one of less than a handful that is still reliably taking place, has up to 200 cars/sellers. The stadium is just a few minutes walk from the Red LUAS line stop and numerous bus stops. For traders the Car Boot Sale opens at 06:30 for buyers from 08:00. The weekly Honest2goodness food market in Glasnevin has fresh meat, vegetables, fish, baked goods, and wines. It is open from 09:30-16:00. It is behind Lidl in the Industrial Estate just after the Glasnevin Cemetary coming from the City Centre.

Parkrun Ireland is organising free weekly runs in parks. It is a timed run over 5km and participation is completely free, but registration before your first parkrun is required.

The SuperNatural Food Market is taking place every Saturday from 09:30-15:30 in St. Andrews Resource Centre in Pearse Street, Dublin 2.

The Green Door Market is a new indoor food/Farmer’s Market that takes place just a few doors down from the Dublin Food Co-op at Newmarket in Dublin 8. Admission is free.

The Belgard Weekend Market is an indoor market with stalls with handcraft (incl. designer jewellery, aran jumpers and wool, christening robes and shawls, cards and cross stitch), household items, bric and brac, furniture, flowers, make-up, clothes, shoes, showers, upholstery, toys, kitchens, cafe, army memorabilia, collectors items, sweets, handbags books, blinds, party shop, tools and more.

It is open every Saturday and Sunday and is located in the Glen Abbey complex (opposite Jacobs) on Belgard Road.

The Drumcondra Village Market is an arts and crafts fair in the centre of Drumcondra. Admission is free.

Jamestown Flea Market + Car Boot Sale takes place every Sat+Sun from 10:00-17:00. You can reach it from Tyrconnell Road and from Kylemore Road and it is within 3 min from Black Horse stop on the red Luas line. There is free parking.

The Merchants Market on East Wall Road is a weekly indoors flea market on Saturdays and Sundays with more than 80 stalls in a big industrial hall. There is everything from furniture and antiques to paintings and mirrors, electronics and hot food to bicycles and buns. It is just a few minutes walk away from the Point Theatre/O2 (walk in the direction of the Port Tunnel).

A new market (flea/vintage/etc) with two cafés has opened in the same location in Thomas Street where the Ferocious Mingle Market was before their move to Camden Street.

The new market in 72 Thomas Street is called Stable Market and it is open from Thursday until Sunday from 10:00-18:00 every day. It seems there is neither a website nor a Facebook Page yet.

The Spanish Film “Las maestras de la República / The Republican female teachers” will be screened in Pearse Street Library in co-operation with the Instituto Cervantes. The film is a documentary from 2003 and it portrays the lives of female teachers in Republican Spain in 1931, brave and committed women who fought for the rights of women and the modernization of the education system, based on the principles of a democratic free education.

The screening is in Spanish with English subtitles. Admission is free.

A free Dog Training Event in association with the DSPCA will take place at Arbour Hill Cemetery on Saturday. All dog owners are welcome. Free microchipping will also be provided.

“Lifelogging – Do you count?” is the title of the newest Science Gallery exhibition, which started on Friday 13 Feb and will run until 12 April.

Lifelogging is part exhibition, part Science Gallery Lab where you can take part in research projects and it deals with us tracking ourselves, measuring things we do and logging everything from heartbeat to heartbreak.

Get a taste for tracking as you play games with your emotions, use your brainwaves to sort files, generate music wearing sensors, and explore a virtual world filled with real dreams and memories.

The exhibits at this exhibition are fascinating: There is George Reynolds who recorded his health on paper since 2003. A sensible and understandable version of lifelogging. On the other end of the spectrum is Alberto Frigo who takes a picture every times he holds an object with his right hand. He started in 2003 and plans to continue until 2040. On the surface it doesn’t make sense AT ALL. But when you talk to him, you find out that there is a surprising sense to what he does.

The exhibition contains 16 exhibits some so odd that you should get the super helpful and knowledgeable Science Gallery mediators to help you understand what is behind it.

In one area, every week another group/organisation will involve you in their work (the Lab part) and I will explain their project in a separate event posting in the weekly Dublin Event Guide.

From Tuesday until Sunday, the Lab in the Science Gallery that accompanies the Lifeblogging exhibition will look at “Your Neurally Engaged Self”.

Think you know your city inside out? Call into the Lab this week and meet the team at Insight, Centre for Data Analysis at DCU. With their guidance you will take part in real research and an experiment to sort and tag images of Dublin City using your thoughts. The experience will involve novel human-computer interaction applications or BCI’s for short (Brain-computer Interfaces). The result: See what your brain waves have to say about Dublin and how they rank compared to the rest of the city dwellers!

Admission to the Lab in the Science Gallery is free.

Archive at Lunchtime screenings take place Saturdays (Double Bill), Mondays and Wednesdays. The programme is changing weekly now (instead of monthly as in the past). The Zurmukhti Georgian Ensemble will perform sacred and secular songs from Georgia at St. Laurence O’Toole Church. The event is part of the Five Lamps Arts Festival and admission is free.

Are you interested in gardening, but don’t have the garden you want? Maybe Powerstown Allotments is the solution for you. Powerstown Allotments are part of Fingal County Council’s Allotments scheme. They are situated just off the N3 between Tyrellstown and Damastown in Dublin 15. There are 200 allotments with a size of 5x10m or 10x10m and I am told that there are still a few allotments available.

On Saturday a Meet and Greet takes place in Blanchardstown Library in The Civic Centre at the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. It is for all existing, new and potential allotments holders in Fingal. There will be introductions, speakers, seed sharing and general gardening chat and advice.

To celebrate thirteen famous Irishwomen – artists, lovers, warriors, muses, rebels – from Nora Barnacle to Lady Jane Wilde Pauline Hall will read from the illustrated Broadsheet of “The Cream of the Milk” and will be accompanied by harpist, Vita Byrne Carty. ‘The Cream of the Milk’ is published in a limited edition of 250 with original clerihews (short humorous poems) by Pauline Hall, embellished with full colour illustrations by Alan Nolan, and biographical notes.

Held annually in over 20 countries, the British Council and Cheltenham Festivals have teamed up to bring FameLab to Ireland again in 2015.

A weekly market with lots of food, but also many other products (art & crafts, books, etc) takes place every Sunday in the beautiful People’s Park in Dun Laoghaire. It is a very popular market and with around 50 vendors also one of the bigger markets.

The next Fusion Sundays Market will take place this Sunday in the Dublin Food Co-op.

It is a world culture market, an ethnic Bazaar, that focuses on the diverse ethnic culture present in Ireland today. The Market features a huge array of International stalls, ethnic food, live music and entertainment for kids. You can buy handmade goods, arts and crafts, recycled products, jewellery, clothes and food. The market is held every second Sunday of the month.

There is always a great atmosphere and I definitely recommend this monthly market.

The Sundays at Noon Concert Series continues in the Sculpture Gallery at the Hugh Lane Gallery. This series of free (mainly classical) concerts continues to present the best of Irish and International music and musicians. Concerts run from September to June.

A 5km Dog Walk to raise funds for Dogs Trust Ireland will take place on Sunday. Organised by Bow Wow Times and sponsored by Ruby & Duke, this walk, will get you out of the house with your dog, will let you meet other like minded people, it will raise funds for Dogs Trust Ireland (because Ruby & Duke will donate EUR 3 for every person that attends) and you will go home with a goodie bag from Ruby & Duke for your dog.

The “Dublin Sketchers” is an informal group of (hobby) artists who go somewhere different in Dublin every Sunday (e.g. National Museum, Maritime Museum, Dublin Flea Market, Farmleigh, Botanic Gardens, Dublin Castle, Science Gallery, …), sketch for one to two hours and then meet up for coffee afterwards and discuss their sketches.

There are some hugely talented people among them and it is a great idea to meet up with others who have the same hobby. Unlike the three branches of the National Museum, the National Print Museum is normally not free, but every Sunday there is a free public tour for the next few weeks. Every visit begins with a short audio-visual presentation where the audience can observe active retired printers providing practical demonstrations of machines from the Museum’s collection.

All singers are welcome to these Sunday Singing Sessions, especially traditional singers. This is an informal session where all participants are encouraged to perform and share songs in a relaxed environment. But you don’t have to take part, you can also come and just listen. Admission is free.

Brian Keary is a classically trained guitar player who also has experience of different styles / genres of music ranging from ragtime and folk to baroque and contemporary. He will perform in Sweeney’s (Ground Floor) on Sunday afternoon.

The exhibition “Kakeru / Run” about the The Great East Japan Earthquake will be launched on Sunday and will run until Wed 11 March (Open 17:30-22:30). It will remind you of what happened on 11 March 2011 and will show you how outstanding the volunteer efforts were.

Admission to the opening is free. There will be a talk and Sake from Tohoku will be provided. The exhibition is in Yamamori Tengu, which is at the back of Yamamori Sushi.

The Dublin Blues Cartel will be in Whelan’s again and will perform mostly a version of New Orleans R’n’B with a classic rock twist, sandwiched with swing, Rock’n’Roll, Soul, Funk, Blues and rap of all eras. Admission is free.

LIFELOGGING Curator Nicholas Felton spends much of his time thinking about data, charts and our daily routines. He is the author of many Personal Annual Reports that weave numerous measurements into a tapestry of graphs, maps and statistics reflecting the year’s activities. He was one of the lead designers of Facebook’s timeline and the co-founder of Daytum.com.

Drop by the Lab to talk to Nicholas Felton as he works, he’ll be demonstrating some of the applications he is using to visualise data he has collected in 2014 and the different methods he has used to capture information for the Annual Reports. For people who have data they wish to visualise, he will share some of the techniques he uses to explore his own data.

Three of Dublin’s best contemporary art galleries in the City Centre, The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and the Project Arts Centre are joining forces to offer a guided walking tour that introduces these three venues and their current exhibitions. “Ireland’s Harp: shaping a nation’s identity” is a talk and recital by Mary O’Donnell. She will trace the history and evolution of this treasured national emblem and glorious musical tradition.

A public symposium on the Legacies of the American 1960s takes place on Wed 11 March and Thurs 12 March.

It is organised by the School of Histories and Humanities and sponsored by the U.S. History and Politics Research Network and the Trinity Long Room Hub. Unfortunately it is not clarified if attendance is free, but on the other hand, no charges are specified either.

The event starts on Wednesday at 19:00 in the Emmet Theatre and continues the next day with at 13:30 in the Long Room Hub.

The talk on Wednesday is entitled “Robert F. Kennedy, Civil Rights and the Racial Crisis of the 1960s” with US historian Patricial Sullivan (University of South Carolina).
The seminar on Thursday starts with a Round table on “Legacy of 1960s Conservatism”. This is followed by a Keynote “Kill the Hippies?: The Legacy of the Sixties in American Punk” by Michael S. Foley (University of Groningen) and then there will be another Roundtable “Legacy of Civil Rights Movement”.

The Spanish Film “Planes para mañana / Plans for tomorrow” will be screened in the Pearse Street Library in colaboration with the Instituto Cervantes.

The film is a drama that revolves around three stories of women of various ages facing their fears, doubts and insecurities. It was filmed in 2010 in locations such as Cáceres and Madrid. It tells us the story of various women on the day their lives are about to radically change.

LIFELOGGING Curator Nicholas Felton spends much of his time thinking about data, charts and our daily routines. He is the author of many Personal Annual Reports that weave numerous measurements into a tapestry of graphs, maps and statistics reflecting the year’s activities. He was one of the lead designers of Facebook’s timeline and the co-founder of Daytum.com.

Drop by the Lab to talk to Nicholas Felton as he works, he’ll be demonstrating some of the applications he is using to visualise data he has collected in 2014 and the different methods he has used to capture information for the Annual Reports. For people who have data they wish to visualise, he will share some of the techniques he uses to explore his own data.

An authentic Cajun Band, The Cajun Roosters, is coming to Dublin for four free gigs on 13/14/15/16 March and the first gig is on Friday in the East Side Tavern. (Admission is free before 22:30)
