A weekly car boot sale, one of less than a handful that is still reliably taking place, has up to 200 cars/sellers. The stadium is just a few minutes walk from the Red LUAS line stop and numerous bus stops. For traders the Car Boot Sale opens at 06:30 for buyers from 08:00. The weekly Honest2goodness food market in Glasnevin has fresh meat, vegetables, fish, baked goods, and wines. It is open from 09:30-16:00. It is behind Lidl in the Industrial Estate just after the Glasnevin Cemetary coming from the City Centre.

Parkrun Ireland is organising free weekly runs in parks. It is a timed run over 5km and participation is completely free, but registration before your first parkrun is required.

The SuperNatural Food Market is taking place every Saturday from 09:30-15:30 in St. Andrews Resource Centre in Pearse Street, Dublin 2.

The Green Door Market is a new indoor food/Farmer’s Market that takes place just a few doors down from the Dublin Food Co-op at Newmarket in Dublin 8. Admission is free.

Opening hours are Thu-Fri 12:00-19:00 and Sat 09:30-16:00.

The Belgard Weekend Market is an indoor market with stalls with handcraft (incl. designer jewellery, aran jumpers and wool, christening robes and shawls, cards and cross stitch), household items, bric and brac, furniture, flowers, make-up, clothes, shoes, showers, upholstery, toys, kitchens, cafe, army memorabilia, collectors items, sweets, handbags books, blinds, party shop, tools and more.

It is open every Saturday and Sunday and is located in the Glen Abbey complex (opposite Jacobs) on Belgard Road.

Career Zoo, the career/jobs event “for professionals and graduates” will take place on Saturday. More than 80 exhibitors will be present and talk to you about what they have to offer. In addition there are a number of talks about careers and technology.

Some of the exhibitors will probably offer jobs, but a good few others (Colleges etc) will be there to promote their courses. So don’t expect 80 employers in the room.

Jamestown Flea Market + Car Boot Sale takes place every Sat+Sun from 10:00-17:00. You can reach it from Tyrconnell Road and from Kylemore Road and it is within 3 min from Black Horse stop on the red Luas line. There is free parking.

Make|Shape leads playfully through techniques, processes and explorations of clay and provides artists, children and teachers with the unique opportunity to share skills and ideas, and collaborate on new projects.

The Merchants Market on East Wall Road is a weekly indoors flea market on Saturdays and Sundays with more than 80 stalls in a big industrial hall. There is everything from furniture and antiques to paintings and mirrors, electronics and hot food to bicycles and buns. It is just a few minutes walk away from the Point Theatre/O2 (walk in the direction of the Port Tunnel).

Sculpture in Context is a brilliant exhibition in the Botanic Gardens from Thurs 04 Sept – Fri 17 Oct and it is Ireland’s largest outdoor sculpture exhibition.

Every year a panel of selectors chooses sculptures from established and from upcoming artists and they will then be expertly placed in the garden setting of the Botanic Gardens and it makes a visit to the Botanic Gardens even more interesting then at other times.

Admission is free and I strongly recommend Sculpture in Context!

A home owner exhibition “Self Build & Improve Your Home” will take place from Friday till Sunday and admission is free, but registration on the website below is required.

A new market (flea/vintage/etc) with two cafés has opened in the same location in Thomas Street where the Ferocious Mingle Market was before their move to Camden Street.

The new market in 72 Thomas Street is called Stable Market and it is open from Thursday until Sunday from 10:00-18:00 every day. It seems there is neither a website nor a Facebook Page yet.

The Temple Bar Markets (Food Market on Meeting House Square, Book Market on Temple Bar Square and the Designer Mart near Cow’s Lane) are taking place every Saturday from 10:00-16:30.

Explore with zoologist Geraldine Breen the displays of animals from all around the world and hear about the behaviour of animals, from wombats and wolves to polar bears and pandas.

The event starts at 10:15 and a second one at 11:30.

Admission is free. No booking required. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Discover the beautiful restored Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden and learn about growing your own fruit and vegetables, herbs and lots more. Meet OPW professional gardeners Brian and Meeda at the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden. They have lots of advice to plan your perfect garden for the Autumn months ahead. The Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden is located next to the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre, and the Phoenix Café. The OPW professional gardeners are on site on the second Saturday of the month, (February to November).

The Alliance Francaise are inviting to an Open Day so that you can meet their staff and learn about the courses and events for 2014/2015. There will be various sample classes, check out the book stand and find out about the various activities. Experiment with some face painting, then relax with a complimentary coffee and croissant in La Cocotte.

The 18th SARI Soccerfest takes place this weekend on Saturday and Sunday on the Gard Sports Grounds in Phoenix Park (near the Zoo). A Men’s tournament, Under 13, Under 15 and a Women’s Tournament will take place.

The SARI All Stars v LOVE/HATE All Stars match will be at 14:00 on Sunday.

Admission for supporters is free.

The Ferocious Mingle Marcade (Market and Arcade) is back in a new location. The Marcade is now in Camden Street next to Daintree Paper and opposite the Centra and off-license there. It takes place every Thurs-Sun and is a flea-market-type permanent market with stalls and “chalets” for traders.

This is the fifth year for “Yoga in the Park”, a brilliant initiative for a very worthy cause: From May until September, Tine from www.aditiyoga.org/ and her team of teachers invite to an hour of Yoga in Phoenix Park every Saturday. No booking is required.

The class is donation based, but all proceeds go to the Dublin Simon Community, a charity that does invaluable work for the homeless people in Dublin and the suggested donation for this very good cause is EUR 5.

Just bring a mat or a towel, some water and (hopefully) even some sun protection to the class. Should the weather be bad, the bandstand will be shelter or even training location. The training is suitable for all levels, so even total beginners are very welcome.

The National Gallery has an extensive programme of free talks, public tours and Art Documentary screenings focusing on highlights of the European and Irish Collection every day of the week. Check their website for details.

The weekly Ha’penny Flea Market is an indoor market in the Grand Social Pub, which offers vintage Men and Women’s clothing, contemporary crafts, books, DVDs, vinyl records, vintage and handmade jewellery, vintage hair styles, art, photography and much more. The Science Gallery Summer Exhibition “Strange Weather: Forecasts from te Future” has opened on 18 July and will run until 05 October.

The exhibition explores how we understand, adapt to and control the changing weather and shows also a lot educational and even quirky bits around weather: A Raindrop hovering in mid-air, a Tornado Diverter, a Cloud Collector, Weather Models, a machine making house shaped clouds and an archive of old events from around the world that were (or are) impacted by weather and of new events emerging because of weather.

There are 26 exhibits and – like all Science Gallery exhibitions -, it is a really interesting exhibition. Well worth a visit with the whole family.

You can even be a TV weather man/woman in a professional studio set-up! An interesting experience!

The historic Liffey Swim that is taking place the 95th time this year, will start at the Rory O’Moore Bridge (Watling Street Bridge) beside Guinness Brewery and will go to Custom House.

The men will start at 13:15 and at 14:15 the women will follow. Over 260 men and 100 women will take part.

“These Are a Few of My Favourite Things” is the title of a Walking Tour that Emily Gallagher will run every Saturday. It will be an Alternative Arts and Culture Trail and she will bring you to “Dublin’s Best Cafes, Bars, Markets, Unusual Stores, Galleries, Theatres, Arts Spaces, and more! And hear some tales you’ve never heard before!”

A Drop-In Qigong class on the Roof Top Garden of the Chester Beatty Library with Ching Xu will take place.

Qigong is a traditional Chinese form of meditation coordinating slow flowing movement, deep rhythmic breathing and a calm state of mind. On Sunday the Family Fun Day will take place from 14:00-18:00 on the Main Street in Lucan Village with a Garda Station Open Day with the Garda Band, the Dublin Fire Brigade Rescue Unit and the Garda Helicopter. There will be a Pet Farm. Music from Ireland, Thailand, Philippines, Nigeria, India and Cameroon. A rubber duck race. Street entertainers, Puppet ShowBouncy Castle. And in addition 22 vintage cars will be on display. All events are free.

You might remember that Arthur’s Day is gone (Good decision!) and it has been replaced with “Guinness Amplify”, a programme of 800 free gigs around Ireland.

Leinster will get Guinness Amplify from 11-14 Sept. Dublin, however, will experience the events not together with Leinster, but separately from 09-12 October. I found out that due to the mass of venues in Dublin, venues outside od the canals were added into the “Leinster” list, while all pubs within the canals are in the Dublin list. That explains!

So this week Saturday and Sunday, there will be pubs in Dublin in the list, but only if they are outside of the canals.

The National Organic Food Fair takes place on Sunday in Marlay Park.

Have you ever wondered about the benefits of purchasing organics or how to grow your own organic produce or even how an Irish organic brand becomes a household name? You can hear about these and more at the National Organic Food Fair.

Speakers from the world of organic production, food writing, brand building and of course cooking will be giving free public talks throughout the day. Pat Lalor from Kilbeggan Farm will talk about the values of organic produce, why you should eat it and the difference between conventional and organic growing. Kitty Scully author, food writer and presenter will share her secrets on how to grow organic produce at home and getting your garden organically prepared all year round. Kenneth Keavey from Green Earth Organics discusses the nutritional benefits of eating organics while Julie Calder Potts from Highbank Orchard gives us an insight into the value of growing, producing and building an apple brand like Highbank. Clodagh McKenna hosts a cooking demonstrations using excellent organic produce, most of which has been sourced from the stall holders at the event.

All of this is free but can get quite busy so get there early to get your seat.

The Fair will have face painters, balloon makers and a pet farm for kids, and there will be lots of outdoor stalls and marquees showcasing Irish organic products. Tempting food stalls will also be there with a host of food ranging from burgers, to soups, yoghurt and apple syrups and ciders, all of which are certified organic. It will be the largest display of Irish organic food available in a single venue.

A weekly market with lots of food, but also many other products (art & crafts, books, etc) takes place every Sunday in the beautiful People’s Park in Dun Laoghaire. It is a very popular market and with around 50 vendors also one of the bigger markets.

The next Fusion Sundays Market will take place this Sunday in the Dublin Food Co-op.

It is a world culture market, an ethnic Bazaar, that focuses on the diverse ethnic culture present in Ireland today. The Market features a huge array of International stalls, ethnic food, live music and entertainment for kids. You can buy handmade goods, arts and crafts, recycled products, jewellery, clothes and food. The market is held every second Sunday of the month.

There is always a great atmosphere and I definitely recommend this monthly market.

“Made by Hand” or “Hecho a manos” is a new Sunday weekly market in Viva, Portobello with most things made by hand and some vintage clothing and curiosities too. Admission is free.

An indoor market in Coolock with over 40 traders with a wide range of goods and a café on site as well.

The next Smithfield Market Fair will take place this Sunday.

It is in the Generator Hostel, which appears at first a little unusual, but there is so much space that the 30+ stalls easily find space.

The Science Gallery Summer Exhibition “Strange Weather: Forecasts from te Future” has opened on 18 July and will run until 05 October.

The exhibition explores how we understand, adapt to and control the changing weather and shows also a lot educational and even quirky bits around weather: A Raindrop hovering in mid-air, a Tornado Diverter, a Cloud Collector, Weather Models, a machine making house shaped clouds and an archive of old events from around the world that were (or are) impacted by weather and of new events emerging because of weather.

There are 26 exhibits and – like all Science Gallery exhibitions -, it is a really interesting exhibition. Well worth a visit with the whole family.

On Sunday the yearly Cabinteely Carnival will come to Cabinteely House in Cabinteely Park. dlr Events will bring this free family fun day out featuring circus performers, activities and a chance to learn some circus skill to you.

The “Dublin Sketchers” is an informal group of (hobby) artists who go somewhere different in Dublin every Sunday (e.g. National Museum, Maritime Museum, Dublin Flea Market, Farmleigh, Botanic Gardens, Dublin Castle, Science Gallery, …), sketch for one to two hours and then meet up for coffee afterwards and discuss their sketches.

There are some hugely talented people among them and it is a great idea to meet up with others who have the same hobby. Unlike the three branches of the National Museum, the National Print Museum is normally not free, but every Sunday there is a free public tour for the next few weeks. Every visit begins with a short audio-visual presentation where the audience can observe active retired printers providing practical demonstrations of machines from the Museum’s collection.

Brian Keary is a classically trained guitar player who also has experience of different styles / genres of music ranging from ragtime and folk to baroque and contemporary. He will perform in Sweeney’s (Ground Floor) on Sunday afternoon.

You might remember that Arthur’s Day is gone (Good decision!) and it has been replaced with “Guinness Amplify”, a programme of 800 free gigs around Ireland.

Leinster will get Guinness Amplify from 11-14 Sept. Dublin, however, will experience the events not together with Leinster, but separately from 09-12 October. I found out that due to the mass of venues in Dublin, venues outside od the canals were added into the “Leinster” list, while all pubs within the canals are in the Dublin list. That explains!

So this week Saturday and Sunday, there will be pubs in Dublin in the list, but only if they are outside of the canals.

Rogério from the Brazilian dance project “Forró de Lampião” in Dublin tells me: Forró de Lampião is Brazilian music that has the same roots as Samba and there is a whole culture that has developed around “forro”. A Royal Irish Academy Townhall Meeting on the Future Earth Initiative will take place on Wednesday.

Future Earth is a new 10-year international research initiative to develop knowledge for responding effectively to the risks and opportunities of global environment change and for supporting transformation towards global sustainability over the coming decades.

The intended goal of the Townhall Meeting is to raise awareness of the Future Earth initiative across the Irish research community in the sciences, humanities and social sciences, and to communicate potential roles and opportunities for Irish researchers pertaining to Future Earth.

The “Havana International Language Exchange” is taking place every Wed from 16:30-19:30 in Havana Tapas Bar in George’s Street. “Overlapping perspective” is a photographic insight of the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino by Luca Salvo.

Urbino, a small hill town located in the Marche region, is a superb example of Italian Renaissance art and architecture. At the heart of Urbino stands the Palazzo Ducale, the magnificent centre of culture and art built by Federico II of Montefeltro and today home to the Museum “Galleria Nazionale delle Marche”, one of the most important collections of Renaissance art in the world including works by Piero della Francesca, Tiziano and Raffaello. This series of photographs was taken between 2010 and 2012.

The exhibition will be on show from 16 Sept – 03 Oct (09:00-17:00) and on Wed 17 Sept at 18:30 the photographer will discuss his work and the exhibition in a special lecture.

A Robin Williams Tribute Night will take place at Filmbase next Wednesday to celebrate Robin Williams but also to raise awareness of mental health issues and highlight support available for suicide prevention.

Robin Williams’s unique acting talent will be showcased in screenings of classic “Mork and Mindy” episodes and a podcast with Marc Maron interviewing Robin Williams in 2010 will be played.

In addiiton a rehearsed reading of the new feature film screenplay written by Karl Argue called Cosmic Baby will be performed.

The film (which has been in development for the last few years) follows Mannix a comedian whose life ambition is to gig with Robin Williams, but who must first escape from a mental institution to do so.

The King Kong Club is a weekly music game-show in the Mercantile. Each week 6-7 bands/solo artists play three songs each. At the end of all the performances a clap-off with the King Kong Club Clap-o-Meter takes place and the winner goes through to a semi-final and it all culminates after six months of competition with The Grand Final, held in front of a panel of celebrity judges.

The Ferocious Mingle Marcade (Market and Arcade) is back in a new location. The Marcade is now in Camden Street next to Daintree Paper and opposite the Centra and off-license there. It takes place every Thurs-Sun and is a flea-market-type permanent market with stalls and “chalets” for traders.

The hugely popular Oktoberfest in Dublin takes place from 18 Sept – 05 Oct again. It is a German Beer Festival with Erdinger Weissbräu Beer (including alcohol-free wheat beer), lots of German Bavarian Food and authentic Bavarian music.

Opening hours are Mon-Thurs 12:00-23:30, Fri+Sat: 12:00-00:30, Sun 12:00-22:30.

The best place to experience the festival is in the Festival Tent on the platform in George’s Dock. But because the yearly festival is soo popular, there are at times long queues because of the severe admission restrictions (quantity of people). Last year the queues already started at 17:30. Luckily around George’s Dock are more food and drink stalls so that you don’t HAVE to be in the Festival tent to enjoy the event. Pre-booking is possible, but check the cost.

Admission is free, but after 22:00 an odd wristband system kicks in whereby you have to buy a wristband for EUR 6 that gives you a EUR 5 food voucher (and 1 Euro goes to charity). Allegedly licensing rules force them to do that, but I never had to get a wristband in a pub to ensure that I have something to eat when I am there.

I get my yearly fix of Bavarian food at the Oktoberfest. The Schweinshaxn (pigs trotter) is a must for me, but just once a year. ;-)

Join Dr. Chris Wingfield, curator at the Archaeology and Anthropology Museum, Cambridge University, for a special lecture on the display of stone artefacts in Museums and the role of stone in society.

This lecture is the key note address of ’The Cultures of Stone 2014 Conference’, jointly organised by UCD School of Archaeology and UCD School of Classics with the support of the National Museum of Ireland.

The Academy Discourse “Global Environmental History since 1945: Into the Anthropocene” by Prof. John McNeill will be given in the Royal Irish Academy.

“This lecture provides a global overview of environmental change since 1945 and the driving forces behind it, including energy systems, population growth, urbanization, international politics among others. It also considers the advantages and disadvantages of employing the new term ‘Anthropocene’ to refer to an age in which Earth history is dominated by human impacts.”

Experts from Birdwatch Ireland will talk about identifying and locating birds in your neighbourhood. Topics will include: the types of bird you can expect to see, good sites for bird watching, type of equipment needed and recommendations for a good guide book.

The Natural Environment Unit of An Taisce (The National Trust for Ireland) is inviting to a free documentary screening on Thursday. The film is “Blackfish”.

“Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, Blackfish is an intense, critical examination of the ethics and resulting tragic consequences of the world wide accepted practice of keeping killer whales (orcas) in captivity for marine theme parks. The film centres on Tilikum, a 6 tonne orca bull whale who has been trained to be a major performer for marine park giant SeaWorld Entertainment.”

The weekly European Folk Dance Workshop/Session takes place in the Tap Bar every Thursday.

The dances are French, Greek, Italian, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese folk and traditional dances and everybody interested to join in or to learn is welcome. Admission is free, but donations (suggested: EUR 3) are very welcome

Dimestore Recordings run a weekly event in Sweeney Mongrel’s with a variety of bands and performers. It starts at 20:00, follow the link for the line up.

The Max Zaska group and the Patrick Groenland group will perform on alternating Thursdays from 21:00 in the International Bar on 23 Wicklow Street.

Every Thursday “Left Right & Centre” play a mix of blues & soul with a bit of rock&roll.

Every Thursday a free Trad Session takes place in McNeills and often there are high profile Trad musicians performing.

The Green Door Market is a new indoor food/Farmer’s Market that takes place just a few doors down from the Dublin Food Co-op at Newmarket in Dublin 8. Admission is free.

An absolute highlight on the yearly event calender in Dublin is the Culture Night! On Friday 19 Sept nearly ALL cultural venues and organisations (museums, galleries, cultural institutes, historic sites, architecturally interesting sites, music organisations, etc) invite to an Open Night from around 17:00-23:00. Dublin will be buzzing and there will be entertainment everywhere!

The central virtual hub of Culture Night has traditionally been in and around Temple Bar, but it is by far not limited to that area. And the best? All tours, concerts and performances are free (even in venues that normally charge for admission). Some require booking and for others the queues will be VERY long (e.g. Trinity Library), but the majority is directly and freely accessible.

Nearly 200 venues take part and there are concerts, art demonstrations, museum and gallery tours, theatre performances, a Family Culture Trail, dance taster classes and lots more.

I will include a few events in the Dublin Event Guide (for Free Events), but they are just a teaser! :-) The full programme includes all events and it wouldn’t make sense if I copied all that.

The Ferocious Mingle Marcade (Market and Arcade) is back in a new location. The Marcade is now in Camden Street next to Daintree Paper and opposite the Centra and off-license there. It takes place every Thurs-Sun and is a flea-market-type permanent market with stalls and “chalets” for traders.

The National Gallery has an extensive programme of free talks, public tours and Art Documentary screenings focusing on highlights of the European and Irish Collection every day of the week. Check their website for details.

Dublin PARK(ing) Day is taking place on Friday at around 30 locations around the city.

PARK(ing) Day is a yearly event for reclaiming public space. For a single day, the 30+ Pay&Display car parking spaces around the city will be transformed into quirky mini-parks or art installations. Artists, designers, urban and environmental activists will create these unique installations around the city.

The idea started in San Francisco in 2005 and has spread to over 180 cities.

The locations and themes of the different parking spaces in Dublin are not announced yet, but you will find it on the website below closer to the date.

The hugely popular Oktoberfest in Dublin takes place from 18 Sept – 05 Oct again. It is a German Beer Festival with Erdinger Weissbräu Beer (including alcohol-free wheat beer), lots of German Bavarian Food and authentic Bavarian music.

Opening hours are Mon-Thurs 12:00-23:30, Fri+Sat: 12:00-00:30, Sun 12:00-22:30.

The best place to experience the festival is in the Festival Tent on the platform in George’s Dock. But because the yearly festival is soo popular, there are at times long queues because of the severe admission restrictions (quantity of people). Last year the queues already started at 17:30. Luckily around George’s Dock are more food and drink stalls so that you don’t HAVE to be in the Festival tent to enjoy the event. Pre-booking is possible, but check the cost.

Admission is free, but after 22:00 an odd wristband system kicks in whereby you have to buy a wristband for EUR 6 that gives you a EUR 5 food voucher (and 1 Euro goes to charity). Allegedly licensing rules force them to do that, but I never had to get a wristband in a pub to ensure that I have something to eat when I am there.

17:00-19:00: Dublin Writers Forum – Open Mic
The Dublin Writers’ Forum was founded in 2011 to provide a creative space where people with a passion for writing can come together and support each other in making their work as good as it can be. It is a place where you can share your writing with others who are serious about developing their craft, and are willing to give some of their time, energy and critical voice to others doing the same. At this weekly Open Mic event every writer will have five minutes to read a poem or a song, a short story or an extract, a sketch or a short play. All are welcome.

21:30 Fathers of Western Thought
Fathers of Western Thought return to The Workman’s to perform their musical interpretation of Ulysses from the ‘Re:Joyce’ project which was serialized by The James Joyce Centre in 2013. This time round they will perform as 4 piece.

The Goethe-Institut programme for Culture Night is: Silent movies with live music, exhibition, quiz, book sale, information.

An evening filled with interactive activities suitable for all the family will await you in the Print Museum. There will be printing demonstrations, music, self-guided arts and crafts, mini workshops for adults and children and the café Press will be open serving food and drinks throughout the night.

Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) is inviting you to visit their Solar-Powered Mobile Cinema on Culture Night.

The Sol Cinema will offer visitors a special cinematic experience. The BAI offices will be open between 17:00-23:00 and besides the Sol Cinema, which will be showing film and TV projects funded by the BAI through its Sound & Vision II Scheme, there will also be a ‘listening lounge’ in which visitors will be able to sit back and listen to a selection of BAI funded radio programmes.

TOG, the hackerspace at Chancery Lane is a shared hub for Dublin’s hacker and maker culture, fostering creative and collaborative work on members’ projects in an environment that is inspiring and supportive of technologies old and new.

Coding, Electronics projects, Beer Brewing, Lock Picking (for a good cause), Pin Hole cameras are only some of the projects the people at TOG work on.

On Culture Night you can take a tour of the space, view the group’s past projects and participate in some micro workshops to help you get hacking.

The People’s Park in Dun Laoghaire got renovated, restored and refurbished and now it is time to relaunch it. The official re-launch will be on Saturday 20 Sept, but for Culture Night there will be on Friday evening already some family fun and games.

Brooks Hotel are celebrating Culture Night with an Anglo Irish writers themed evening.

Irish actor Jim Roche will read from the works of Oscar Wilde, WB Yeats, James Joyce, Seamus Heaney and many more, bringing the acclaimed pieces to life. Jim’s performance will be accompanied by a classical pianist.

For Culture Night, the Instituto Cervantes will invite to an art exhibition, a Latin American handicraft market, an ex-library and second-hand book sale, music and food and dance performances every half hour:

Jennifer McElwain (Lecturer in Plant Palaeoecology and Palaeobiology in UCD’s School of Biology and Environmental Science) will talk about the oldest Strange Weather.

She is currently the director of UCD’s Plant Palaeoecology and Palaeobiology research group which seeks to investigate the causes and consequences of the fourth greatest extinction event in Earth history at the Triassic-Jurassic boundary, 200 million years ago.

At Culture Night, a free pop-up drive-in cinema will appear at Smithfield Plaza. The film is “The Mission” from 1986 with Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons and with Ennio Morricone soundtrack. The film shows a Jesuit missionary’s experiences in 18th-century South America.

During the interval, images from the Man on Bridge project will be screened. Man on Bridge tells the story of street photographer Arthur Fields who stood on O’Connell Street & Bridge for fifty years to take pictures of people in Dublin.

The film starts at 20:00 and cars can arrive from 19:00 (first come first served). Admission is free. People with no cars can also watch the film and listen to the sound with a radio or phone with FM tuner.

10 piece Ska Band Interskalactic will play in Whelan’s. Admission is free.

“Electric Fridays with DUB” is a weekly gig/open mic night in the basement of The International Bar. Admission is free.

Musicians, artists, bands who want to play a 25 min set should contact the organisers via the Facebook page below. A PA and some equipment is available.

The Stillorgan Orchard has live music every Friday and Saturday. Many of the performers are established and very good bands. The upcoming gigs are detailed on the website below. Admission is always free.

“Ska ‘n’ Reggae” is the theme in the Dive Bar (downstairs in Turks Head) every Friday. The Bionic Rats play live and the DJs Tommy Rash and Fukszy are on the decks until late. Admission is free.
